There were two trees in the garden of Eden (Gen. 2:9). There was in the garden the Tree of Life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Adam and Eve were given the choice of which trees they would eat the fruit of. It says in Genesis 2:16,17, "And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:...But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
Adam and Eve choose to eat of the wrong tree (the tree of the knowledge of good and evil). Did you know that God wanted man to eat of "the Tree of Life," but not of "the tree of knowledge of good and evil?"
Did you know that the LORD God was not speaking to Adam alone in Genesis 2:16, where is says, "And the LORD God commanded the man (adam), saying..."? There is a miss translation into the English Bibles by putting the word "the" in front of the word "man" in this verse. Did you know that the word (adam) used in Genesis 2:16 means mankind in general, both male and female? It does not mean "Adam" (an individual person by the name of Adam). The LORD God was speaking to every human being that ever lived upon this earth, beginning with Adam and Eve and continuing on until Judgment Day, which is the day spoken of in Revelation 20:12, where it says, "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works."
Our English Bibles do not reveal these truths. The truth of what was said is only found by studying the Hebrew and the Greek, which are the inspired Scriptures (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21). Every person will stand before the LORD and be judged according to that which is written in the books (Rev. 20:10,12).
In Genesis 2:17, the LORD God said to you and I "...of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." The LORD God was speaking to all mankind (including you and I) at the time when this was spoken in Genesis 2:17.
In Genesis, Chapters, One and Two, the LORD God was preparing for mankind (including you and I), to have an everlasting relationship and fellowship with God. God wants to have multitudes of people (in eternity), in the image of Jesus Christ (His Son). In 1 Corinthians 15:49, writing to Christians it says, "as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly." This verse is talking about bearing the image of God's only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
Are you ready to walk with God like Jesus walked with God and bear the image of Jesus Christ yourself?
There were two trees in the Garden of Eden. The fruit of one tree would produce "eternal life." That tree was called "the Tree of Life." The fruit of the other tree would produce two deaths (physical and eternal death). That tree was called, "the tree of knowledge of good and evil."
I experienced eating of "the Tree of Life," as opposed to eating of "the tree of knowledge of good and evil," when I was born again into the family of God. About nine months before I was born again, I went to a doctor, and then to the hospital and had surgery done. The doctor removed a tumor on the left side of my face, which he was concerned that it could have been malignant. At that time I also had a very bad case of bleeding hemorrhoids. The doctor did a complete examination of the hemorrhoids, and had scheduled surgery for two days later in the same hospital.
After the operation on the tumor, I asked the doctor to put off the surgery for the hemorrhoids until later, which he did. I never did go back and have an operation on the hemorrhoids. Shortly following my new birth into the family of God, I notice all my hemorrhoids disappeared, I have not had any trace of hemorrhoids, or bleeding since 1979.
Before I was born again in 1979, I had a lot of fear. I was afraid of the dark. I would run from my garage in the ally to my house, in fear of someone or something catching me. I also had a very bad case of nervousness. I had a hard time getting to sleep at night, and in the daytime, many times my hands would shake and it was hard to stop them from shaking. It was hard sometimes to drink from a glass. My hands would shake so much.
All of these conditions left me shortly after I was born again. The more I read the Word of God, things like that just started leaving me, things like that, that gave me problems for years were gone.
I did a lot of praying before I was born again. But my prayers were not being answered. I was at a point where I must have prayed over one-hundred times that the LORD would take my life. I did not want to continue to live, I wanted to die and get it over with. The LORD never answered that prayer.
Once I was born again, I noticed the LORD answered many prayers, with very little effort on my part. After I received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, it was simple to pray and watch the LORD answer my prayers.
All I needed to do was pray, and many times the answer was immediate. Many times, all I needed to do was speak against the problem, or condition, and it would leave. I spoke against pain and the pain left. One time I spoke against bleeding on my ear, and the bleeding stopped.
One morning I burned my hand on an aluminum cake pan in an oven at more than 400 degrees. All I did was say, "Thank You Jesus for healing my hand!" Within six hours there was not even a sign of any burn on my hand. It was totally healed, with no mark where the burn had been.
Eating of the Tree of Life goes way beyond anything that the doctors or medical people can do. Healing comes by simply speaking Words, and believing in the promises of God. By believing the written Word of God and speaking against all kinds of things in the natural. As we believe and speak, it is done many times within a very short time.
Jesus said in Mark 16:17,18, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;...They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
After I received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, I found out that what Jesus said in Mark 16:17,18 works, just like He said. It is so simple, yet very few people believe it will work for them.
It is simple to speak Words and watch the LORD, by the power of the Holy Spirit work. In the beginning I would pray for people's arms and legs to adjust. At first I did not believe it would work if I did the praying. When I saw it work, even when in my mind I did not believe it would work, I was amazed.
The more I prayed for other people's arms and legs to come out and adjust the more I watched them move and adjust. Then it seemed to be so simple, that most of time today, all I do is look at the arms or legs and say, "Thank You Jesus for adjusting these arms or legs," and watch them move and adjust. It is that simple. The Word of God works for anyone who will believe and do what it tells us to do in the written Word.
The tree of knowledge of good and evil does not work that way. By the knowledge of good and evil, we cannot simply speak words and see results. The knowledge of good and evil uses natural means to obtain healing. The Tree of Life uses the written Word of God spoken in faith and it is done.
Have you ever wondered why there was only one type of fruit on the Tree of Life and two types of fruit on the tree of knowledge of good and evil? Let me give you a clue as to why?
The fruit on the Tree of Life is a total operation of God in a persons life. God is in control of all the fruit on the Tree of Life. The fruit on the Tree of Life is God's "fruit of the Spirit," manifesting in the life of a person. Christians have a New Testament in their Bibles that helps them to understand these two trees. When we look at Galatians 5:22,23, we see the fruit of the Spirit listed. It says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,...Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." (We will see the significance of these fruit later). The reason there was only one fruit on the Tree of Life is because the source of the Tree of Life is God Himself.
Looking at "the tree of knowledge of good and evil" there were two types of fruit on it. There was "the knowledge of good," and "the knowledge of evil." Both of these fruit would produce death. Looking at Genesis 2:17 it says, "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely (muwth) die (muwth)." Notice that the Hebrew word "muwth" is the same Hebrew word translated "surely" and "die" in most English Bibles.
These words "surely die," in the Hebrew signify two deaths, corresponding with Revelation 20:6,14. The Hebrew word "muwth," translated both "surely" and "die," is a primitive root word.
The first word "surely" is in the "infinitive mood." Infinite means, "unlimited; not limited to any person, number, or tense." Infinitive means "existence or action without reference to person, number, or tense. It is usually the form of the first person singular present." In the case of mankind (when Adam ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil), eternal death came upon all mankind.
The second word "die" is also the same Hebrew word "muwth," but is in the "imperfect mood," "expressing an action, process, or condition which is incomplete." This pertains to the death of the natural body, which is called "mortal" in Romans 8:11 and 1 Corinthians 15:53,54. Mortal means "death is resident; in the process of dying; and will eventually die." Romans 5:12 says, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." Therefore, the word "surely" in Genesis 2:17 pertains to "eternal death" and word "die" in Genesis 2:17 pertains to "physical death." These two deaths "passed upon" mankind when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden. Adam and Eve did not die that day, but sin and death passed upon mankind, and became resident within mankind that day.
But, neither of these two deaths came upon Jesus, Who is called "the Second Adam." In Jesus was eternal life (John 1:4). As a result of what happened when Adam ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge in the garden of Eden, 1 Corinthians 15:22 tells us, "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."
What Christians have not understood is that "the knowledge of good" can produce "two deaths." Also "the knowledge of evil" can produce "two deaths." If Christians "continue" to eat of either one of these fruit, their end could be questionable. This is all explained in Revelation, 20:10-15; 21:7,8.
The source of the tree of knowledge of good and evil is Satan, the Devil. Satan has two ways in which he deceives people, and gets them to follow him. He has "the knowledge of good," which he uses to establish religious operations which people follow, thinking they are doing what God wants them to do. The knowledge of good causes people to "justify themselves" and not believe in the righteousness of God which is in Jesus Christ. (See Acts 13:16 through 39).
Satan also has "the knowledge of evil," whereby people judge others, based upon their idea of who is good and who is evil. Judging others keeps a person from walking with God, and prevents them from eating of the Tree of Life. Jesus began to explain this to us in Matthew 7:1,2, where He said, "Judge not, that ye be not judged....For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." In Luke 6:37 Jesus said, "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven." The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 2:1, "Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things."
In the natural, everyone knows what it is like to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. We were all born into this world and grew up eating of "the tree of knowledge of good and evil." It was a way of life for us. We did not know any other way of life. We lived like the world lives and did not know any other way to live.
The difference between eating of "the Tree of Life" and eating of "the tree of knowledge of good and evil" is like a coin. There are two sides to a coin. On one side there is an image which is commonly called "heads." On the other side there is an image which is commonly called "tails." That's the way it is between the Tree of Life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. One is life, and the other is death. It's that simple. Heads we win and tails we lose. If we choose the Tree of Life and eat the fruit of it, we win. If we choose the tree of knowledge of good and evil and eat the fruit of it we will lose. If we choose the tree of knowledge of good and evil we could even lose that which we already have, which is physical life in the flesh. We already have physical life, but if we eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, sickness and disease can enter in and we can die physically before our time (1 Cor. 11:29,30).
In eating of the Tree of Life we have power over sickness and disease and all the works of the enemy. In eating of the Tree of Life we have "righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit" (Rom. 14:17). In eating of the Tree of Life we have the very life of God living in us and through us (John 15:1-7, 17:1-10, etc.).
THE TREE OF LIFE
It is to our advantage to understand the Tree of Life. In understanding the Tree of Life we can overcome the works of the devil, which operate by the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Once we understand the Tree of Life, we will recognize the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The tree of knowledge of good and evil is a counterfeit of the Tree of Life. We must know the "True" before we can identify the "false."
One way to explain this is the difference between light and darkness. The Tree of Life is representative of light. In John 1:4,5, speaking of Jesus it says, "In him was life; and the life was the light of men....And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." Light always destroys darkness. Darkness must leave whenever light comes. Therefore, the Tree of Life destroys the works of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Another way to explain the difference between the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil is by "the love of God." In 1 John 4:8 it says, "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." Those who do not have the love of God in them do not know God, for "God is love." The love of God destroys the works of the devil.
In John 3:16,17 it says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life....For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." It was because of "the Love of God," that God sent Jesus into the world to destroy the works of the devil. The love of God destroys the works of the devil. Those who do not have the love of God within them do not know God, for "God is Love."
Satan is called "the god of this world" in 2 Corinthians 4:4 where it says, "In whom the god (theos) of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God (theos), should shine unto them." The same Greek word (theos) used to identify Satan is the same Greek word used to identify God. The meaning is the same, which is "deity, having supernatural powers greater than man, operating in the spiritual realm." Satan is a god with supernatural powers, operating in the spiritual realm.
There are two differences between our God and Satan. One is that Satan is a created being, subject to our God Who is the Creator of all things. The other difference between Satan and our God is that our God is Love, and lives and moves by love. If we take the Love of God away from our God then we have Satan, for Satan has no love. Therefore, our God is Love and Satan has no love. That is how you can easily identify Satan and the works of the devil (for in Satan, there is no love).
Satan can come "as an angel of light" (2 Cor. 11:14). Satan can come and present himself from the position of "the tree of knowledge of good," but the true Love of God is not there. His motives and his ways are without the Love of God for Satan does not have the Love of God in him.
Those who use English versions of the Bible will not easily see this difference, for the Greek word "agape" is translated "love" right along with the Greek word "phileo" in the English versions of the Bible. There is a major difference between "agape" and "phileo." God's love is "Agape" which only those who are born again of God can possess. It is God's love manifesting through those who are children of God.
"Phileo," is natural human love, the kind of love a husband has for his wife, the kind of love a mother has for her children. It is the highest form of love that natural people have for each other. Whereas God's love is "agape" the very love of God Himself, manifesting in God and through those who are truly born again of the Spirit.
Therefore, Satan does not have God's "agape," neither does anyone who is not born again of the Spirit into the family of God. Only God has God's "agape," and God's "agape" cannot manifest in the lives of human beings unless God Himself manifests in their lives by His Love.
"Phileo" is conditional love. People love each other as long as they each meet the conditions set by each other. Marriages continue as long as the husband meets the conditions of the wife, and as long as the wife meets the conditions of the husband. When the conditions of one or the other are no longer met, the idea of divorce or unfaithfulness comes into the minds of one or the other. They look for ways to end their fellowship and even their relationship. Therefore, "phileo" is conditional.
God's "agape" is "unconditional." There are no conditions attached to God's love. God's love never changes. God never stops loving people. When Christians walk in Love "agape," they do not walk in love by their own power. They are walking in the Love of God manifesting through them.
There is a major difference between Christians walking in "phileo," and Christians walking in God's "agape." The English versions of the Bible do not give us the true meaning of these two Greek words. Therefore, many Christians are trying to serve God by walking in "phileo" thinking they are doing the will of God. These are deceived by the Devil, operating in their natural mind of the flesh. The "god of this world" is operating in their lives from "the tree of the knowledge of good."
Many Christians "have not been taught" how to eat of the Tree of Life. Eating of the Tree of Life is not something you do in the natural, like eating an apple, or banana.
Eating of the Tree of Life is a "spiritual experience," not a "natural experience." In other words, eating of the Tree of Life is something you do in the spiritual realm, not in the natural realm. In 2 Corinthians 10:3 it says, "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh." On this earth we still have a natural body of flesh and bones. But, in Christ we also have a spiritual body, joined one Spirit with the LORD (1 Cor. 6:17).
In 1 Corinthians 15:44 it says, "...There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body." In the flesh we have a natural body, but in Christ we also have a spiritual body. Even though we have a natural body of flesh and bones, we do not operate in the Body of Christ from our natural body. We operate in the Body of Christ from our spiritual body, which is in Christ Jesus.
When we operate from our spirit (which is in our spiritual body), we operate by the power of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit within us. That means, when we walk after the Spirit, and operate in Christ, we operate in the spiritual realm by the power of God within us. Romans 8:2 says, "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."
Being in Christ, Romans 10:8 says, "But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach." God's Word is in us.
In 1 John 4:13 it says, "Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit." God's Holy Spirit is in us.
Colossians 1:27 says, "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory."Christ is in us.
Colossians 2:9,10 says, "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily....And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power." We are complete in Christ.
When we know who we are in Christ, we can operate in the spiritual realm rather then in the natural realm. When we operate in the spiritual realm, it is not we who do the works, but rather it is God in us doing the works (John 14:10).
While eating of the Tree of Life, 2 Corinthians 10:4 says, "...the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds."
In 2 Corinthians 10:5 it says, "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." Therefore, we do not operate according to the thoughts that come to our mind, but rather by the written Word of God and the Spirit of Christ within us. We cancel and destroy every thought that does not agree with what the written Word of God says, bringing every thought into agreement with the written Word of God.
You can eat of the Tree of Life "if you will do what the Scriptures tell us to do." But, to eat of the Tree of Life, we must be led by the Holy Spirit according to the written Word of God. We must "walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh" (Rom. 8:1). The choice is up to us, individually, which one we will follow, the flesh or the Spirit?
