When it comes to teaching from the Word of God, it is important to understand certain things concerning the written Word of God. One thing that will help is knowing how the written Word of God came about? In 2 Timothy 3:16,17, it says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness...That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." Then in 2 Peter 1:20,21 it says, "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation...For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

This tells us that it is not for man to figure out what God is telling us in the Scriptures, but for us to receive the revelation from the Holy Spirit of what God is telling us in the Scriptures. In 1 Corinthians 2:11-14 it says, "For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God...Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God...Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual...But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

The wisdom of men will not give us the correct interpretation of the Word. It must be revealed to us by the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, we must be careful to not go about teaching what we think God is saying, without first being taught by God. Jesus said in John 6:45, "It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me." Therefore, those who are taught by men will easily be taught something differently than what God wants us to know and understand.

Another thing of importance is the language of the original writings. The Old Testament was written mostly in Hebrew with some of it written in Chaldean (which was the language of the Babylonians at the time of Daniel). The Hebrew language changed many times from the time of Moses to Malachi.

The Hebrew language is a difficult language to translate into English and even into Greek. Many words in the Hebrew language change their meanings according to the subject of the statement they are in. Therefore, "word for word" translations are not always correct. Also, many have not considered the use of the word based upon it's tense or mood, before translating into English.

Many times it is important to find the same subject as it is explained in the Greek, thereby giving us a more accurate understanding of what the Holy Spirit had inspired to be written in the Hebrew. For, the Holy Spirit had the Scriptures written in Hebrew and Chaldean in the Old Testament and Greek in the New Testament. What the Holy Spirit inspired some to write in Hebrew He also had inspired others to write in Greek. The Holy Spirit never changed, only the language it was written in changed.

One of the greatest errors of this is seen in Genesis 2:7, compared to 1 Corinthians 15:45,46. In Genesis 2:7 it says, "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." In 1Corinthians 15:45,46 it says, "And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit...Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual." Many Christians, trying to explain the creation of man in Genesis 2:7 teach that Adam was created "a spirit" with a body and a soul. Yet 1 Corinthians 15:45,46, makes it very clear that the first man "Adam, was created "a living soul." As clear as this is written in 1 Corinthians 15:45,46, there are still multitudes of Christians teaching that man is a spirit, and has a body and a soul. When it says in 1 Corinthians 15:46 that "Adam was not spiritual." These teachings are contrary to the Scriptures. Why do Christians teach that Adam was spiritual?

Because the spirits of this world have "blinded their minds" to the truth, they can read these Scripture verses hundreds of times and still believe that Adam was spiritual. In 2 Corinthians 4:3,4, it says "But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost...In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." Those teaching the doctrine that Adam was spiritual can be Spirit-filled Christians whom God has used in other areas to set people free. Yet, in this area their minds have been blinded by the god of this world.

The truth that Adam was not spiritual is a major part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If Satan can keep Spirit-filled Christians from knowing the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he can keep them from teaching the truth.

Men who teach this doctrine are taught by men and not by the Holy Spirit. They believe what men teach, rather than what the Holy Spirit teaches.

Another thing of importance is that God never changes. What God inspired to be written in the beginning will never disagree with what God had inspired to be written in the end. So it is important to consider everything God said on a certain subject before we decide what God was saying?

As an example, God knew that Adam and Eve would eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, even before the LORD God created man in the beginning. Therefore, it is revealed to us in Revelation 13:8, that the Lamb was declared slain for our redemption already from the foundation of the world.

Therefore, already in Isaiah 43:25 the LORD said to the Children of Israel, "I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins."

What the LORD did on the Cross of Calvary was already effective for those before Jesus was born into this world as the Son of Man. In reference to that, what Jesus did on the Cross made it possible for Enoch to walk with God and be translated from earth to heaven. In Genesis 5:23,24, it says, "And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years...And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him." In Hebrews 11:5, it says, "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God."

Another thing of importance is "who was God speaking to, or speaking of?" When the Law of Moses was given, it was given to the Children of Israel, not to the other nations and not to Christians. That does not mean the Law of Moses was not good. But, what God did for everyone in the New Covenant is much better than what God did in the Old Covenant in Law of Moses.

The Law of Moses could not justify anyone, but the Blood of Jesus can justify everyone who will believe. The Old Covenant was for the Children of Israel before Jesus came into this world. The New Covenant is for everyone who will believe on Jesus Christ, Jews and Gentiles alike.

Where many make a mistake in the Old Testament is in understanding the Hebrew language. As an example, in Exodus 15:26 it says, "And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee." In this the Hebrew word "suwm" translated "put," does not mean that the LORD Himself would put sickness and disease upon people. The Hebrew word "suwm" is used in many ways, such as "literal, figurative, inferentially, and elliptically." Very seldom is it used "literally." This is where many get into error in thinking that God puts sickness and disease upon His own children.

God is love (1 John 4:8). Love does not do evil (1 Cor. 13:4-8). Sicknesses and diseases are evil. They are a work of the Devil. Jesus came to destroy the works of the Devil (1 John 3:8). Therefore, Jesus came to destroy sickness and disease. Jesus would never come to destroy anything that God did.

The reason many Christians do not receive healing is because they believe God puts sickness and disease upon Christians to punish them or to teach them.

It takes a lot of understanding of the Hebrew and Greek language to know who puts sickness and disease upon Christians and who takes sickness and disease away from Christians? God does not put sickness and disease upon any people, Christians or non-Christians. What people permit Satan to do, God permits Satan to do. When people obey the LORD, Satan cannot put sickness and disease upon them. When people disobey the LORD, they are permitting Satan to have a place in their lives. If people give Satan a place in their lives, God will not interfere with what they do. God did not stop Adam and Eve from disobeying the LORD, and God will not stop anyone from disobeying the LORD. If we disobey the LORD, we give place for the Devil to put sickness and disease upon us.

All disobedience is sin, and sin brings sickness and disease upon us. We permit Satan to put sickness and disease upon us by disobeying the LORD.

Jesus never disobeyed the Father. Therefore, Jesus had no sin, sickness or disease of His own. Satan had nothing on Jesus. Therefore Jesus was without sin until He took our sins and iniquities upon Himself to be our substitute.

Many Christians have been blinded by the enemy in believing that God puts sickness and disease upon people. This makes it very difficult for many Christians to receive healing. First, they need to know the truth, that all sickness and disease comes from the Devil. God heals everyone who will believe the truth, which is the Gospel.

In Romans 1:18-32 we can see how that Satan is able to put sickness and disease upon Christians. When Christians are not thankful, and do not glorify God (Rom. 1:21), and continue to live in sin (Rom. 1:28-32), God gives them over to a reprobate mind, where the Devil is in control of their mind.

We need to study Romans 1:18-32 closely, so that we do not give a place for the Devil in our lives. Continuing in the sins listed in Romans 1:22-32 will open the door for Satan to put sickness and disease upon us.

Generational Curse or

Transfer of Spirits?

First we need to see what the Scripture reveals about the transfer of spirits. In Genesis 2:17 it says, "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." In this, the LORD God commanded mankind not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

In Genesis 3:1-6, it says, "Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?...And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden...But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die...And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die...For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil...And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."

The serpent came to Eve and spoke to her concerning eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Eve knew she would be disobeying the LORD God if she ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Gen. 3:2,3). Yet, she continued to listen to the serpent until she agreed with the serpent and ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

All of the time Eve was listening to the serpent, the same spirit that was in the serpent was gaining a place in Eve's thoughts. When Eve gave place for the Devil, the evil spirits gained access to Eve's mind.

Once an evil spirit transferred from the serpent to Eve (by Eve receiving the thoughts), the evil spirit used Eve to talk to Adam. As Eve talked to Adam, he "hearkened unto the voice of thy wife..." (Gen. 3:17). When Adam harkened to the voice of his wife, the evil spirit in Eve transferred to Adam, and he ate also.

This process of transfer of spirits continued to transfer all the way from Adam to everyone who was born of the bloodline of Adam. By this, Roman 5:12 says, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned."

Sin and death came upon all mankind by "the transfer of spirits." All of the children of Adam and Eve were born in the likeness and image of Adam (not in the likeness of God) (Gen. 5:3). The sin and death that came upon Adam transferred from one generation to the next generation.

There are two types of evil spirits that can transfer from one person to another person. One type of evil spirits that can transfer to others are those that cause sickness, disease, and infirmities in the flesh. Thereby, a child can be born with sickness, disease, or deformity of the body or soul (mental disorders) (John 9:2,3).

As one example, when two people get involved in sex outside of marriage, their children can become born with physical or mental deformities. The father and mother of the child disobeyed the LORD in having sex outside of marriage. This disobedience gave place for a spirit of infirmity of the flesh or mind to transfer and manifest.

Sin gives place for evil spirits to transfer from one person to another, just as the evil spirit transferred from the serpent to Eve and then from Eve to Adam.

This type of transfer of spirits is not uncommon. Many spirits transfer by physical contact. It does not need to be by sexual contact. Even God uses the transfer of spirits by physical contact to help Christians receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. This is sometimes done by the laying on of hands (physical contact). In Acts 8:14-17, when Peter and John laid hands upon those of Samaria who had received the Word, they received the Holy Spirit. In Acts 9:17,18 when Ananias laid his hands upon Saul (now called Paul), he received the Holy Spirit. Transfer of spirits by physical contact has always been used by God and by the Devil.

The other type of evil spirits, are those that transfer by "words spoken." As the parents teach their children, they grow up believing like the parents taught them. Evil spirits also transfer when the children are taught by other people.

If the children are taught properly to obey God, they will obey God. Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

If a child is not trained up properly, they will not obey the LORD. Some children are brought up to believe in other gods. They become religious and do not follow the one and only True God. Even if a child was taught about God, if they are not trained up to obey God, they can easily go astray by the transfer of spirits from another person.

What does this have to do with generational curses? If the parents permit evil spirits to operate in their lives, these same evil spirits can transfer to their children.

In Exodus 20:3-5 it says, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me...Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth...Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me."

Is God "putting" sickness and disease on the children because of the sins of their father? Or, is God "permitting" the spirits to transfer to the children unto the third and forth generation? Look at what it says in Ezekiel 18:20? "The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him."

Look at what is says in Proverbs 26:2, "As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come." A better understanding of this is " the curse does not come without a cause." No curse will come without a cause. The problem Christians have is understanding the Hebrew language.

When Christians teach that God puts sickness and disease upon Christians, or anyone, they are blaming God for their sickness and disease. You cannot blame God for anything that is not of God. God does not put sickness or disease upon anyone.

If we would look at Job 2:1-7, we will see that Satan puts sickness and disease upon people, not the LORD. In Job 2:7, it says, "So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown." The LORD did not put the sore boils upon Job. Satan put the sore boils upon Job.

Notice that Job did have a problem. If you will study the whole book of Job, you will see where Job opened the door for Satan to put sore boils upon him. When you get to the last chapter in Job, you will see that Job repented of his sin. When Job repented, the LORD restored to Job even more than he lost. Job lived another one hundred and forty years.

In Matthew 18:18-21, Peter asked the LORD about how many times we must forgive others? "Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven" (Matt. 18:22). Then Jesus gave a parable of a king who forgave a servant, but the servant would not forgive another person. The king then called that servant back. In Matthew 18:34,35 it says, "And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him...So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses." In this, Jesus said "God will deliver people over to the Devil (tormentor) and the Devil will put the sickness and disease upon those who do not forgive."

Repentance brings forgiveness. Forgiveness makes it possible for the LORD to restore all that Satan destroyed. Satan puts sickness and disease upon people when they disobey God. If people would obey God, the LORD will not permit any sickness or disease upon those who obey Him (Ex. 15:26).

Speaking of Jesus, in 1 John 2:2 it says, "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world." According to this, all of the sins of the whole world were laid upon Jesus. If Jesus took all the sins of the whole world upon Himself, why are there so many living in sin today? They are not free because they do not believe the Gospel (Good News). When Christians believe the complete Gospel, they will obey the LORD and they will be free of sin, sickness, and disease.

God does not put sickness and disease upon anyone. People have sickness and disease because they permitted the spirits of this world to transfer to them from someone who does not believe the complete Gospel.

How does this come about? Just like it did in the garden of Eden. The serpent said some things that were true. But he added something that was not true. Adding to the Word of God, or taking away from the Word of God will make the Word of God of none-effect in the lives of those who believe all that was said. Had Eve refused to agree with the statements of the serpent that were not true, she would not have eaten of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Many times when Christians call the transfer of spirits a generational curse, all they did was, they put the wrong label on a subject that they did not completely understand. When they explain how the sickness or disease went from one person to another, they usually are right in what happened.

If they would teach that repentance and forgiveness of sins can set them free of all sickness, disease, sins and iniquities, then it is up to those involved if they will believe the Gospel. For those who will repent and receive forgiveness of sins, they will be free of the cause of sickness and disease. When the cause is removed, then they can receive healing.

One way to receive healing from sickness and disease is in Mark 16:17,18. Jesus said, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues...They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." In Mark 16:16 Jesus said, "we should cast out the demon first," before we lay hands upon the sick.

Therefore, just laying hands upon the sick and saying "be healed in the Name of Jesus," does not always do the complete job. The demon is still there. The cause of the sickness and disease has not been removed. First, we need to remove the cause of sickness and disease. Before, we can cast out the demon, Christians need to repent and confess their sins. Once they have repented the demon no longer has a legal right to remain. When the demon's rights to remain have been taken away, then he can be cast out.

First we should get rid of the cause, by repentance and remission of sins, then we can get rid of the demon that caused the manifestation. Once the demon is cast out, we can receive healing. Trying to take a shortcut and receive healing without removing the cause (which is sin), the demon can manifest again and even bring other demons greater in power to manifest. The end results could be worse than the beginning.

This is why Jesus said in Luke 24:47, "And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." First get rid of the sin, then get rid of the demons. In 1 John 3:4, it says, "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law."

In 1 John 1:9 it says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." First remove the sin, then cast the demon out and receive healing.

Why is it that so many are not healed when they are prayed for? There is still sin in their lives, which gives the demonic spirits the legal right to manifest sickness and disease in their bodies. Once the sin is removed by repentance, and receiving forgiveness of sins the spirits have no legal right to remain. With no legal right to remain, they must leave in "the name of Jesus."

What are some of the main sins that give the demonic spirits legal rights to cause sickness and disease? One sin is not keeping the commandments of the New Covenant. The first commandment is "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment" (Mark 12:30). Putting anything before God in our lives is sin against the first commandment. Any sin against God gives the spirits of this world the legal right to manifest in our lives.

Another sin is doubt and unbelief. If we doubt the Word of God, we give place for the spirit of doubt to manifest in our lives. Once we give that spirit a place in our lives, it will be difficult to receive from God, whatsoever God has promised us.

In Matthew 17:19, the disciples asked Jesus, "Why could not we cast him out?" In Matthew 17:20,21, it says, "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you...Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."

Prayer and fasting will overcome doubt and unbelief. In Jude 1:20 it says, "But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit" (NKJV). Praying in the Spirit will build up our faith that will help us to overcome doubt and unbelief.

Even praying in our natural language will help to overcome doubt and unbelief. When we pray, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal things to us that we can understand the Scriptures, He will answer our prayer. Many Christians who have had problems in getting their faith to work have asked the Holy Spirit to reveal to them where they have missed it? In a number of these cases the Holy Spirit reminds them of what it says in Mark 11:24, where it says, "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." Mark 11:24, says, "that they must believe when they pray" (that is, believe before they pray). Praying without believing before praying gives place for doubt and unbelief. If we do not believe God will answer our prayer before we pray, in most cases' God will not answer. In Hebrews 11:6, it explains this by saying, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." We must believe before we pray, then God will answer our prayer.

By believing before we pray, doubt and unbelief will be overcome. When doubt and unbelief are overcome, it will be easy to cast out evil spirits. When the evil spirits are cast out, healing will be easy. Our prayer will be answered when we believe before we pray.

When Christians do not understand the difference between generational curses and transfer of spirits, they will easily blame God for their problems. When they blame God, God will not answer their prayers.

When Christians do not believe the Truth, the truth cannot set them free. We must believe the Truth for the Truth to set us free. The Truth is Jesus Christ, Himself.

Jesus is the Living Word of God and Jesus is the Truth. When we believe the Living Word of God, we are believing Jesus, who is the Truth. There is no other way, than by believing the Living Word of God.
