FROM YOUR SPIRIT
Christians have a new and better covenant than what the Children of Israel had. Our new covenant is based upon better promises than that of the Law of Moses. Hebrews 8:6 says, "But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises." There are many promises made in the New Covenant, all of which are important. The blood of the Lamb of God is very important, much more important than the blood of bulls and goats. For the blood of the Lamb is eternal, shed once for everyone from Adam to the very last person to be born into this world.
But of all the promises in the New Covenant, there is one promise just as important as the blood. That is spoken of in Galatians 3:13,14,
Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
"The blessing of Abraham" is one of the greatest of all the promises in the New Covenant. Yes, the blood is very important. But if you will notice, the Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world (Rev. 13:8). The blood was shed for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2). But the promise of the blessing of Abraham was only to those who are the seed of Abraham.
The blood was shed to take away the sins of the world. Yet, many people will spend eternity in hell. Not because Jesus did not take their sins upon Himself on the Cross of Calvary. But, because they have not received Jesus as their LORD and Savior, and become born again of the Word and the Spirit. Unless a person is born again into the family of God, the blood of Jesus Christ is of no avail to them.
Yet, the blessing of Abraham can keep them unto eternal life forever with Jesus (Eph. 4:30). The blessing of Abraham in Galatians is not the worldly possessions that Abraham had (as some teach). It's not that we can have more cattle, and servants, than anyone else, so great a blessing that Lot and Abraham had to split and go each in another direction. That is not the blessing of Abraham spoken of in Galatians 3:14.
The blessing of Abraham spoken of in Galatians 3:14 is "the promise of the Spirit," that is, the Holy Spirit as our Guide, Comforter, Helper, Teacher, and Leader in whatsoever we do. Abraham was a prophet (Gen. 20:7). All the prophets of the Old Testament had the Holy Spirit. The blessing of Abraham, which is promised to those who are born again of the Word and the Spirit, is the Holy Spirit, which we can receive "through faith."
Many Christians do not receive the blessing of Abraham, because, "they do not mix faith with the Word" (Heb. 4:2), promising them the Holy Spirit. We receive the Holy Spirit, "by faith," after we are born again into the family of God!
We must have "faith" to receive the Holy Spirit. Not, the faith that some teach, "just receive it by faith"! No, the faith we must have is "the faith which is given to us by God," which is a "fruit of the Holy Spirit" (Gal. 5:22). The fruit of the Holy Spirit is a fruit that is produced in us, by the Holy Spirit. It's not what we do, or did, but what God does in us, and through us.
The reason Abraham became the Father of us all, is because Abraham "obeyed God" (Gen. 22:18). Obedience, brings the blessing of the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:32), Who is the power of God on earth (Acts 1:8).
A person can be born again into the family of God, and still not have the power of God to do His will. To do the will of God, we must have the blessing of Abraham as our Helper, Guide, Comforter, Teacher, and Leader. Once a person is born again, they have the ability to see and understand the kingdom of God. But, they must still enter into the kingdom of God after they are born again. Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3:3, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Those who are not born again cannot understand the reign of God. Jesus then said to Nicodemus in John 3:5, "Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." (1) First, we must be able to see and understand the reign of God. (2) Then we must enter into the reign of God ourselves. Acts 14:22 says, "we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God."If we are to enter into the kingdom of God "through much tribulation," that doesn't sound like we enter through the new birth.
God reigns by the power of the Holy Spirit here on earth. If we want to do the will of God, we must receive the Holy Spirit, after we are born again, and permit the Holy Spirit to reign in our lives. Abraham was blessed, for he had the Holy Spirit.
God's will is done on earth by those who will permit the Holy Spirit to Help, Guide, Comfort, Teach, and Lead them. Those who try to do the will of God without the Holy Spirit Helping, Guiding, Comforting, Teaching, and Leading them will only fail in the end. Only that which is of the Spirit will stand in the end, all that is of the flesh will produce corruption. Paul, writing to the Christians in Galatia said, "he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting" (Gal. 6:8).
Jesus said, "It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God..." (John 6:45). How is God going to teach His people? Is man going to do the teaching or is God going to do the teaching? Jesus said, God is going to do the teaching.
In John 7:38, Jesus said "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water."Jesus was speaking of the Holy Spirit bringing the Word of God to our mind "out of our belly" where the Holy Spirit dwells. This only pertains to those who have received the Holy Spirit after they are born again of the Word and the Spirit into the family of God (John 3:3,5,6). The Word of God should be coming out of our spirit to our mind like rivers of living water. The Word of God should be constantly flowing, and flowing, from our spirit.
In John 4:14 Jesus said, "But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." Jesus will give us the Holy Spirit, sent from the Father, that we might have the Word of God flowing from our spirit day and night. Like a river never stops flowing, the Word of God should be flowing from our spirit.
In my life, for years now it seems the Word of God keeps coming to my mind from my spirit. It's like I can hear another voice speaking to my mind from my spirit, yet it is not a voice. These are words coming from my spirit, many times saying, "Praise the LORD! Thank You Jesus! Praise You Jesus! etc." This praising the LORD keeps coming from my spirit, day and night. Scripture verses keep coming from my spirit to my mind. This is a daily, day and night operation in my spirit. Many times I go to sleep hearing the Word of God coming from my spirit. I wake up in the morning hearing the Word of God coming from my spirit.
Many pastors have tried to teach the Word of God from their minds. They study and make an outline of what they are going to preach. Then they memorize their outline, so they are sure they do not miss any important points. By the time they get up to preach they are like a parrot, rattling off the words they have memorized. When they get through, everyone agrees, he did a great job. Why do they agree? Because he was speaking from his mind to their minds. They heard what he wanted them to hear, and it agreed with what they wanted to hear.
Did you know, that is of the flesh and not the Spirit of God? When the Holy Spirit is reigning, the Words flow from your spirit out of your mouth. Your mind does not know what you are going to say until you hear yourself, speaking.
Words come out of your own mouth, that you had no idea of what you were going to say before you said it. You may think you know before you speak, but while you are speaking you say things you never intended to say.
If you are flowing with the Holy Spirit, you will find that what you say agrees with the written Word of God from Genesis through Revelation. Over and over, day after day, words come from my spirit, that I had no idea were coming. They come, as the Spirit wills, not as I would like them to come.
When I teach or minister, I do not have any notes or any outline of what I intend to say. In most cases, I do not even have an idea of what I will minister on before I get up to minster. The Holy Spirit impresses upon me what I should start speaking on, and from then on I have no idea what I will say. As I speak, my mind receives the same information as those to whom I am speaking. I am familiar with what the Scripture says. I have been reading and studying the Bible for many years. Therefore, when something comes out of my mouth, my mind automatically recalls Scripture concerning what I am saying.
Jesus said, "the Holy Spirit will bring to remembrance those things which we have learned from Him" (John 14:26). The Apostle John wrote in 1 John 2:27, "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him." It's the anointing in us that does the work, not we ourselves, of our ability. It is the Holy Spirit, bringing the Word of God from our spirit that ministers to the people.
The Bible does not teach that we should minister according to our ability, according to what we think, or what we believe we know. We are to let the Holy Spirit speak through us, from within our spirit. He is to do the teaching, not us. We are only vessels to be used by God for His purpose. His purpose is not always our idea. Therefore, we are only to be ready to be used and let the Holy Spirit use us. Let the Holy Spirit minister to the people from our spirit, not from our head or from our natural mind.
One time I was teaching at a church on a regular basis, every week. For a number of weeks I noticed there were certain individuals attending who were not baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. On this particular evening, there were just four people attending in the beginning of the service. I knew that none of them had the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This I knew in the natural, in my mind. Therefore, that evening I told them, I would teach on the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This I said from my mind. I thought it was my idea to teach on the Holy Spirit that evening.
But then, without me thinking of what I was about to say, these words came out of my mouth "tonight, everyone of you will leave this place speaking in tongues." That statement did not come from my mind, the words just came out of my mouth, without me intending to say that. When I heard myself say that, my mind did a flip (if you know what I mean). In my mind, I said to myself, why did I say that? I felt that I should correct that statement, and say "some of you will leave this place speaking in tongues." I didn't believe "in my mind" that, everyone would receive and speak in tongues that evening.
Yet, knowing the words did not come from my mind, but simply came out of my mouth, I didn't say anything contrary to what came out of my mouth. If it was the LORD that put the words in my mouth, then everyone would leave that evening speaking in tongues. Therefore, even though my mind did not believe they would all receive the Holy Spirit that evening, I just went on and taught on the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
After I finished teaching on the baptism in the Holy Spirit, I then went and laid my hands upon each one, one at a time, and prayed with them. Everyone of them received the baptism in the Holy Spirit that evening, speaking in tongues. When the meeting was over, I was still amazed myself, that they all spoke in tongues.
Jesus said, "out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." The Holy Spirit will cause the Word of God to flow out of our belly, from our spirit when He dwells in us.. It's not us, it's the Holy Spirit that causes the Word of God to come from our spirit.
In Zechariah 4:6 there is a prophetic Word for the New Covenant, saying, "This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts." This was spoken to Zerubbabel, who was the governor of Israel during that time of the captivity. He would have been king, had they not gone into captivity. He was the son of Salathiel, who was the son of Jechonias, who was king when the children of Judah were taken into captivity by the Babylonians.
So, what does this say to us? Those who think they are in authority in the Churches, should take notice what the Spirit is saying to the Churches. Now, Zerubbabel was sent by God to work with Joshua the High Priest, to rebuild the temple. When we see what the Spirit is saying to the New Testament Churches, we can better understand God's plan for Christians today.
The LORD is going to build "His Church" (Matt. 16:18). It's not going to be by man's power, not by man's might, "but by the Holy Spirit!" When Jesus came to do the will of God the Father, He was the Word of God, Who came in the flesh (John 1:1,2,14). Jesus is the creator of all things (John 1:4), all things are created by Him and for Him (Col. 1:15,16). "He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not" (John 1:10). Yet, as Jesus did the will of God the Father, He said to Philip, "the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works" (John 14:10).
In the body of Christ, today, "the only works that will be of any value are those things that the Holy Spirit does through Christians." All of man's plans, all of man's ideas, all the planning, and building projects, preaching schedules, all the hours of setting up sermons, studying others sermons, following others examples will be of no avail. These are all dead works of the flesh.
The only works that will be accepted are those works where the Holy Spirit is the Helper, Guide, Comforter, Teacher, and Leader in all that is done. The Holy Spirit works from the spirit of man, not the mind or the intellect. The Holy Spirit brings forth the Word of God out of our belly. The Holy Spirit puts the Word of God in our mouth, that we speak by the unction of the Holy Spirit, not man's wisdom, but the wisdom that comes from God. God works by His anointing, not by man's ability.
God anoints those who are willing and obedient, not those who think they have some special gift. Those who think they have some special gift or calling, are operating from their intellect, not from their spirit. God anoints those who are humble, and are willing to spend time with God in prayer and the Word. Those who will deny themselves, and follow Jesus. Those who are wise in their own conceits, God will pass by and find those who are humble and of a willing heart.
Christians must be willing and obedient to permit the Holy Spirit to equip them with the anointing to do the work the LORD has called them to do. This anointing comes when Christians spend time alone with the LORD and the Holy Spirit in prayer and in the Word. It's an individual, one on one, relationship and fellowship that the LORD looks for. When He sees those who's heart is right, who's will is right, who are willing and obedient to the Holy Spirit within them; then He anoints them with the ability to do the work. Then, it is not them doing the work, it is the Holy Spirit in them doing the works. Not by their power, not by their might, but by the Spirit of God working in them and through them.
Philippians speaks of having the mind of Christ (Phil. 2:5-13). This is not talking about whether you have the mind of Christ or not? It's talking about the mind of Christ that you have, "it's the attitude you have." Christ's attitude is our example. He was the Son of God, yet He did not make of Himself any reputation. His reputation came as a result of what He did. He humbled Himself and became as a man. He was God, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, but He came in the flesh of man, willing to do the will of the Father. That is the attitude we must have if we are to have the mind of Christ. Verse 13 says, "For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."
How does God work in us to do His good pleasure? He works in us by His Word and the Holy Spirit. Hebrews 8:10 says "He puts His laws in our minds and writes them in our hearts." It is this operation of the Holy Spirit within us that causes "rivers of living water to flow from our belly" (John 7:38). It's not something we are doing, it's something the Holy Spirit does within us. It's not our works, it's a work of the Spirit of God within us.
The Holy Spirit brings the Word of God to our mind from our spirit when He so desires. It doesn't have to be when we are in prayer, or studying the Word. It can be anytime He so desires. His timing is not our timing. His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isa. 55:8).
There was a time when I was working with my hands, not paying any attention to other things. Just doing what I needed to do on the job I was working on. When, all of a sudden this Scripture came from my spirit,
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
I knew that was Matthew 7:21-23. I had heard many teachings on these verses, and I partly believed what they taught. After all, those who taught on these verses were supposed to be great men of God.
When I went to my Bible to look up those Scriptures, I saw something I had not seen before. I saw, the important thing in verse 21 is, "are you doing the will of the Father"? The second thing in verse 22 is, "you don't enter into the kingdom of heaven because of the anointing."
Balaam was a great prophet. Balaam had a great anointing. Yet, the New Testament doesn't speak very highly of Balaam. Many people have great anointings upon them. Many people have been used mightily by God. Yet, that is not the person, it's the Holy Spirit.
You don't enter into the kingdom of heaven just because God used you. You only enter into the kingdom of heaven because you did the will of God the Father. Those who try to use the anointing for their glory, or for their gain, could loose their position in heaven. Like Balaam, many of those who have a great anointing, misuse it, and abuse it and cause many others to fail. Some of them become blind leaders of the blind (Matt. 15:14).
The majority of the false teachings among the Gentile churches come through those who go outside of their anointing and teach things they are not anointed to teach. We must stay with the anointing, and trust and rely upon the Holy Spirit to teach us.
There was a man who called himself a prophet, that traveled around from state to state teaching. In one of his teaching sessions, he said, "you do not have to seek the giver of the gifts, you already have the giver, now seek the gifts." He used 1 Corinthians 14:1 to teach his doctrine from. He tried to teach many things, of which many of the things he taught were not from God. He also stressed man's teaching on 1 Corinthians 14:1, that we should all prophecy, "saying, thus saith the LORD"! When, if you checked out what, "they say the LORD said," it doesn't agree with the Scriptures.
I have only heard of one person who taught the truth concerning what Paul meant when he wrote 1 Corinthians 14:1. That is, the true meaning of the word prophesy is "speak by the unction of the Holy Spirit." There are three gifts of the Spirit that operate in speaking by the unction of the Holy Spirit. Prophecy, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. Of all three of these, Paul said, "I would...rather that ye prophesied..." (1 Cor. 14:5). It is very important that everyone speak in tongues. But, in the congregation it is better that you prophesy, for then everyone can understand what you are saying.
Prophecies are always to be, "by the unction of the Holy Spirit," just as tongues and interpretation of tongues are to be by the unction of the Holy Spirit. Prophecy, must come from your spirit, not from your mind. Those who prophesy must never speak anything except that which the LORD puts in their mouth. Balaam said, "Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?" (Num. 23:12). Again in Numbers 22:38, Balaam said, "the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak." Anyone who prophesies should only speak the words "the LORD puts in his mouth." Never speak from the mind or the intellect. Only speak from your spirit, by the unction of the Holy Spirit. Those who teach otherwise, are teaching error.
Peter also wrote on this, saying, "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen" (1 Peter 4:11). Therefore, Paul was saying, I wish that everyone would "speak by the unction of the Holy Spirit," (the LORD putting the words in their mouth). Not speaking from their mind or intellect.
The Spirit of God dwells in us to use us as vessels to speak the Word of God out of our mouth. The words that come out of our mouth should be by the unction of the Holy Spirit, not the wisdom of man. Yet, many flock to hear those who claim to be anointed, and teach from man's ideas, man's doctrines, which do not agree with the written Word of God.
If we are to be taught of God, as Jesus said, then we need to listen to our spirit, where the Holy Spirit dwells. Where the Holy Spirit within us, can teach us all things (John 16:13, 1 John 2:27). It's from our spirit, in our belly, that the rivers of living water will flow, springing up unto everlasting life.
How is the Holy Spirit going to teach us? In Isaiah 28:9, speaking of the Holy Spirit teaching man, it asks the question, "Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts." Then in verse 10 it explains, "For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little." The Holy Spirit does not reveal everything at one time. Sometimes He will reveal something to you, and then later (it may even be years later), He will reveal something else on the same subject.
One instance happened a short time ago. Years ago, it was revealed to me that the teaching that Satan got Adam's dominion is not true. At that time it was shown to me that in Genesis 1:26, the word "man" was not the word used for Adam as an individual person. That word "man" is the Hebrew word used for "mankind in general." Look at Genesis 1:26, it says, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." It doesn't say, let him (meaning Adam), have dominion. It says, "let them have dominion..." Them is plural, including all of mankind, not just Adam. Then in verse 27 it says, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." When God did what He said He was going to do in verse 26, it says, "So God created man..." Again, the word used for man, is the word that means "mankind." Then it says, "God created he him; male and female created he them." There again, it was not one person by the name of Adam, but it was mankind, both male and female that God created and gave dominion.
By this, I knew the Holy Spirit was showing me that Satan could not get Adam's dominion, because dominion was not given to Adam as an individual person. Dominion was given to mankind in general, both male and female.
A short time ago, I was working with my hands, concentrating upon what I was doing, when all of a sudden this came to me: "the likeness and image of God and dominion are all a part of the same, you cannot have one without the other." I knew that was referring to Genesis 1:26. When I finished doing what I was doing, I went and looked up Genesis 1:26. That is exactly what it says in the Hebrew. God created man in His own image and likeness and gave man dominion over all that is listed in that verse. What it really means, is "you cannot have dominion unless you operate in the likeness and image of God." Satan cannot operate in the likeness and image of God, therefore, Satan could not get man's dominion from Adam.
Shortly after the time I received the information from my spirit on Genesis 1:26, "that you cannot have dominion without operating in the likeness and image of God," I was just laying on my bed, before getting up, and this came to me from my spirit, "the beginning of the gospel was taught in Genesis 1:26."
If you study the Scriptures closely, from Genesis through Revelation you will find that everything agrees. Actually, the gospel that Jesus preached and said should be preached throughout the world, starts right there in Genesis 1:26. It's the same gospel that Paul preached, and said, "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed" (Gal. 1:8). Then in verses 11 and 12 Paul wrote,
But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Christians need to be receiving the revelation of the Word of God from Christ, from the Holy Spirit, not from man's wisdom and man's knowledge. The Holy Spirit is sent by Jesus to be our Helper, Guide, Comforter, Teacher, and Leader. It is by the Holy Spirit within us, that we are taught of God.
If we study the Scriptures closely, you will find that Jesus said, "of myself, I can do nothing" (John 5:30). In John 15:5, Jesus said, "without me ye can do nothing." Without operating in the likeness and image of God, by the power of the Holy Spirit operating in us and through us "we cannot operate in the dominion given to man." Man's dominion operates when man does the will of God, by submitting to His Word, speaking His Word, and believing in his heart. That's the gospel that Jesus preached. That's the gospel that Paul preached. That's the gospel every Christian should be preaching.
Years ago, it was shown to me from my spirit, that the image of God is how you see God. Now, we cannot see God with our natural eyes, but we get an image of God from His Word. An image is not the object itself, but an understanding of what the object is by it's image it presents. As an example, a photograph is an image of an individual. But, the photograph is not the person, it's only the image of the person.
The image of God is how we see God in His Word. We see God as truth, faithful, loving, longsuffering, merciful, not willing that any should perish, but that we can have everlasting life through Jesus Christ, His Son. When we live and have our being in that image of God, dominion can operate in our lives.
The likeness of God is "how God does things." God speaks His Word, and it comes to pass. Whatsoever God says, will come to pass. God speaks things into being, "God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were" (Rom. 4:17). "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light" (Gen. 1:3). God speaks things into existence. Jesus said, "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them" (Mark 11:24).
When we walk in the likeness and image of God, we have dominion, just like Jesus had dominion when He walked this earth before His death and resurrection. By understanding what God said in Genesis 1:26, we can understand the whole Bible, especially, the gospel that is to be preached throughout the world.
One time when I was at work, not paying any attention to anything concerning the Word of God or prayer, just doing what I needed to do. I was watching a machine I was running, paying attention to the work I was doing. When, all of a sudden, out of my spirit came these words "God is Spirit"! I knew that was in reference to John 4:24. Being it came from my spirit after I was done working on the machine I went to look it up in my Bible. I looked up John 4:24, which said in the King James Version, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." I knew those words come to me for a purpose, so I looked in the Greek, what it said. In the Greek it does not say "God is a Spirit," The words "is a" are not in the Greek. Then, as I looked them up, it came from my spirit, "God is Spirit."
If God was "a Spirit" He would be no different then the angels or the devil, they are spirits. Spirits are created beings, whereas God is not a created being, God is Spirit, and God created all spirits. Created beings are not omnipresent, nether are they omnipotent. They can only be in one place at one time. Whereas, God is everywhere, in every born again Christian, all over the world, at the same time. God is in Christians in China, Africa, England, the United States, etc. all at the same time. "God is Spirit."
Yet, there is a teaching among many Christians that, "because God is a Spirit, and Adam was created in the likeness and image of God, man is also a spirit." Yet, the Bible says, man is a living soul (Gen. 2:7, 1 Cor. 15:45). Both, the Old Testament and the New Testament say that man is a living soul. Yet some, using the English version of the New Testament, read in John 4:24, "God is a Spirit." and teach their doctrine of man is a spirit and has a body and a soul.
I praise God that Jesus said, "It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God..." (John 6:45). When the Holy Spirit teaches us from our spirit, He teaches us the truth and it is no lie. In 1 John 2:27, it says, "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him." Christians need to be taught by God, not by man. The truth of the Word of God is more important than the teachings of men.
One day, early in the morning, just before getting out of bed these words came to me, "To love the LORD is to hate evil." I knew it had to be somewhere in the Bible. So an hour or so later I looked it up. In Psalm 97:10 it says, "Ye that love the LORD, hate evil." I knew this was what the Holy Spirit was showing me. Our love for the LORD is partly gauged by how much we hate the works of the devil. If we look at sickness and disease as a work of the devil, then we should hate sickness and disease so much that we would do whatsoever we can to destroy it. When we see a person who is sick or has a disease, or infirmity, we must love the person and hate the sickness, disease or infirmity. Our hatred of the sickness, disease, or infirmity should be so great that we should come against it with the blood of Jesus, the name of Jesus and the Word of God until it is gone. We must destroy all the works of the devil if we love the LORD.
There are many Scripture verses that tell us this. Jesus said in John 17:18, "As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world." In 1 John 3:8 it tells us, "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." God sent Jesus into this world to destroy the works of the devil. Now, Jesus has sent us into this world to destroy the works of the devil.
To love the LORD is to hate the works of the devil. If we hate the works of the devil, we should come against them with everything we have available to us "the blood of Jesus, the Name of Jesus, and the Word of God."
During the week before the Spirit of God brought to me the words, "to love the LORD is to hate evil," I was studying a book by Smith Wigglesworth. Smith Wigglesworth would sometimes become very violent when he overcame sickness and disease in people. Some felt he was too violent with the people. But Smith Wiggelsworth said, he loved the people, but hated the works of the devil so much that he became violent with the devil. There has never been any reports of Smith Wigglesworth causing any injury to any person, even though he would punch them in the stomach, or other places in their bodies when he came against diseases or infirmities in individuals. Smith Wigglesworth did things in such a way that you could understand, "you must come against the devil with a demanding and authoritative action that he knows you mean business." You don't talk nice to the devil, you demand that he leave the person. You "command" sickness and disease to leave the bodies of individuals.
To command the devil to stop his actions in individuals, you must hate evil. You must take authority over all the works of the devil and demand the devil to leave. Every sickness, disease, and infirmity must bow to the name of Jesus, and leave the bodies of the children of God. We must never come against the person who is sick. We must only come against the works of the devil. When we hate evil, we will be ready to destroy all the works of the devil, that the love of God can be seen in our lives. "To love the LORD is to hate evil."
Be a doer of the Word not a hearer only (James 1:23). If we don't do what the Word tells us, we will not benefit from the promises of God. God has given us great and precious promises. These promises are dependant upon our being a doer of the Word and not just a hearer only.
The Children of Israel heard the Word spoken to them concerning entering into the promised land (Num. 13:2). But they did not mix faith with the Word (Heb. 4:2), and therefore, all above twenty died in the wilderness (Num. 14:22-35). If you don't want to die in the wilderness, then be a doer of the Word and not just a hearer only.
If the Word of God is not flowing like a river from your spirit, then find out why? Jesus said in John 7:38, "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." The Word of God promises that those who believe shall have rivers of living water flowing from their bellies. If this is not happening to you, find out way?
There are many people in the body of Christ today that hardly ever study the Word of God. In 2 Timothy, 2:15 it says, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." If you are one that does not daily study the Word of God, then you are disobedient to the Word of God. If you are disobedient, then how can God give you the true riches of His Word?
There are many in the churches today, that read the Word of God now and then, but never study it. There is a difference between studying the Word of God and reading the Word of God. Those who read and not study will only end up knowing what others say the Word of God says and not truly know what God said.
One day I was working on a job, paying attention to what I was doing, when all of a sudden there came from my spirit these words, "look up 1 John 5:7 in a certain Bible." In my mind, I thought, why look it up in a certain Bible, I always use the King James Version? Yet, knowing that came from my spirit, and I must prove all things (1 Thess 5:21), and try the spirits if they be of God (1 John 4:1), I stopped working and went and got that certain Bible to look up that verse. Would you believe, that verse is not in that certain Bible? Then I found that there are many verses left out of some of these newer Bibles; besides 1 John 5:7, there are Matthew 18:11, John 5:3,4, Acts 8:37 just to mention a few of the important ones.
What's happening to our Bibles? Who's taking the Word of God out of our Bibles? Don't they know, the Spirit of God inspired the Scriptures and no one should add anything to the Word of God or take anything away from the Word of God (Deu. 4:2, Prov. 30:6, Rev. 22:18,19)?
I recall someone telling of a time he went to a meeting of one of the larger denominations. At that meeting they discussed an issue concerning a certain pastor. They decided the pastor was wrong and should be removed. The person who went to the meeting didn't say anything, just listened to what the others said. That evening, he said, the LORD appeared to him and said, "in so much as you did not disagree with them, you are as guilty as they are"!
If we do not study our Bibles we will never know if what it says is true or not? If the truth is not in our Bibles, how will we know the truth? We must study our Bibles, not just read them. If we listen to others, what they say to do, according to their ideas, we could end up dying in the wilderness just like those above twenty-years did according to Numbers 14. God's Word is GOD'S WORD, not what men think it should say. We need to know the truth, not what man calls the truth.
There are those who teach from what they heard others teach, and never studied their Bibles to see if it is in the Bible. There was a time when a word came, saying, "Those who teach, what they have heard others teach, and have not received it from My Spirit, if they will repent, My grace will cover them." The LORD is not pleased with those who teach what others teach and it does not agree with the Written Word of God. They hear others teach something and they do not take the time to study their Bibles to see if it is in the Bible or not? There are a lot of teachings going on in the churches today that are not in the Bible. Yet, those who teach such things are teaching what they heard others teach. This is not good to say the least.
The Holy Spirit is our Helper, Guide, Comforter, Teacher and Leader. He will help us if we will do what the Bible tells us to do. If we are not doers of the Word, and just hearers only, God cannot help us.
There are may in the churches today that never pray in the Spirit. The Bible says, "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit..." (Eph. 6:18). Praying in the Spirit is one way the Holy Spirit uses to teach us the mysteries of God. In 1 Corinthians 14:2 it says, "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries." Studying alone is not enough to experience the "rivers of living water flowing from our belly." We must do what the Bible teaches, then we will receive the benefits of the New Covenant.
There are some in the churches today that pray in the Spirit a lot, hours a day. Yet, they do not study the Word. Their whole life is tied up in praying. As a result, they are like a person who is out on the ocean and cannot swim. They will not experience the true working of the Holy Spirit if they do not have a balance of the Word and the Spirit. All prayer and no Word is like spending all our time on the ocean. You cannot live on the ocean, we must also have dry land to live on.
All dry land could cause someone to die in the wilderness, in the desert with no water. The Word and the Spirit work together, not apart from each other. We must have both, if the rivers of living water are to flow from our belly.
There are some who pray a lot, and do not study the Word. They get all kinds of visions, and dreams, and hear voices which are not of God. The evil spirit realm loves those who pray and do not study the Word. I know a person who prays a lot, but does not study the Word. She told me her angels name, who she talks to. She goes around saying "God told me," when God did not tell her anything. These people who pray a lot and do not study the Word get all messed up in their lives. Besides, they go around messing up other people's lives with their "God told me...."
One time, one of those who pray a lot and don't study the Word was in a church where they have tongues and interpretation of tongues. This person thought she was going to interpret the tongues. For, four weeks in a row, she tried to interpret the tongues. Each time she said the same thing. The tongues and interpretations were tape recorded. The pastor listen to the tapes and told the person, that is not God and she should not continue to try to interpret if the Spirit of God does not give her the interpretation. She got upset with the pastor, and did not want to hear what he had to say.
Christians, these are evil spirits that cause Christians to do such things. It is not of God! Counterfeit spirits work where the true Spirit of God manifests. Counterfeit spirits work through Spirit filled Christians.
I was at a three day meeting in a Spirit filled church. The first day, during the worship time I got an "unrest in my spirit." There was an "uneasiness" in my spirit and I didn't know why. The people were dancing and praising God. And there is nothing wrong with dancing and praising God, the Holy Spirit will cause us to dance and praise God sometimes. But this time there was something wrong with the praise and worship.
I noticed one woman on the stage different than the others. Most of the praise and worship team were alert and watching while they led the praise and worship. This one woman had her hands up in the air, her eyes closed, and it seemed as though she was in a daze. It didn't seem as though she was a part of the praise and worship team. She didn't seem to be leading anyone in praise and worship. Yet, I didn't know why I had an uneasiness in my spirit at the time.
After the praise and worship was over, the pastor got up and announced that if anyone wanted to get some good praise and worship music, they should buy this woman's tapes and CD's. Then he said, "if you will listen closely, you will hear the drum beat of the Congo in the back ground."
Does anyone know what the drum beat of the Congo is? It's what the witch-doctors use to call upon the evil spirits. These evil spirits hypnotize people so they can get them to do what they want them to do. The evil spirits get control of the persons mind through hypnotism. Some of the people dancing could have been hypnotized and didn't know it.
Counterfeit operations like these are operating in the praise and worship of many churches today. If we are not sensitive to the Holy Spirit, in our spirit, we will not know the difference. The Holy Spirit is "the Spirit of Truth." He will show you the Truth when the counterfeit is in operation. There were many Spirit filled Christians at that meeting. I did not hear of anyone who noticed the counterfeit in the praise and worship.
When the rivers of living water flow from your spirit, out of your belly, it is God, not man. Yet, you must prove all things and hold fast to that which is of God (1 Thes.5:21). You must never think, just because you are a Christian, and are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you cannot be deceived. Esau was a son of Isaac, just as Jacob was. If you study your Bible properly, you will find that Esau was deceived, and deceived himself in selling his birthright for bread and pottage (Gen. 25:29-34). Hebrews 12:16 says Esau was a profane person. That means, he "showed disrespect for sacred things."
If a Christian's eyes are upon the world and the things of this world, they can easily be deceived. How many pastors and ministries today, have given up on the leading of the Holy Spirit for money to keep their ministry going?
I was at a meeting one day and a woman had been ministering for a few times before that day. I was at all the meetings and I picked up in my spirit that some of her ministering to individuals was not of God. I said to her, "did you know, not everything you hear in the spirit realm is God, the devil can talk to you also." She looked at me, and said, "what do you mean"? I said, "if the devil could speak to Jesus in the wilderness (Matt. 4, Luke 4), what makes you think he cannot speak to you also?" If we do not try the spirits, the evil spirits will manifest. We must try the spirits if they be of God?
Another person who calls himself a prophet said, "every thing I receive in the spirit realm is from God. The devil cannot operate in the spiritual things in my life, because when I pray I ask the LORD to reveal things to me. Because I ask in faith, I receive from the LORD whatsoever I ask. Therefore, being in faith on what I ask, Satan cannot inject anything. It's all from the LORD." That's ignorance gone to seed, as someone would say. How can anyone get so high-minded that they are above the Word of God?
When you hear teachings like the above, from your spirit you get a check, that is "a sense, a quickening," there is something wrong with what is said. Many times, you know within yourself what the truth is, and what is not the truth. Many times, at meetings I will hear things or see things that are not of God. From within my spirit I get "a check," and as I listen to my spirit, many times I will know what is wrong.
One time I was invited to a meeting where some people I knew were ministering. There were two speakers besides the pastor of the church speaking on different evenings. The one meeting I went to, after they were through ministering the pastor took up the offering. When the offering was taken, he had one of his people count the offering. Then he said, "this is not enough, God told me how much we were to receive, and so we will take up another offering to give those who didn't give what they should have given another chance." After taking up the second offering, the pastor had it counted, and again he said, "it's not all here, God showed me, someone here is to give $100., so we will take up another offering so that person can give what God told them to give." Then he took up the third offering, and counted it.
In my spirit I had a check, already the first time the pastor said, "this is not enough, God told me..." After the meeting was all over, I mentioned to one of the pastors I knew, "that wasn't God on that offering." He said to me something like this, "you have to do what you have to do to get the money"! In my spirit, I got a check, and I knew something else was wrong, not just the pastor who took up the offering.
There is a bad spirit that manifests in the Churches today, it is not of God. That spirit operates through many people in the ministry. I have noticed, this spirit is working everywhere, Christians are doing whatsoever they have to do to get what they want. It's in the churches, it's in the homes, it's wherever you go.
If we learn to listen to the quickening in our spirit, by the Holy Spirit we will not be deceived. Jesus said, "It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God..." (John 6:45). Again, 1 John 2:27 says, "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him."
Remember, Jesus said, "they shall be all taught of God." The word "they" includes you, if you are born again into the family of God.
We do have our part to play, otherwise we will be no different than the world. In 1 John 2:27, it says, "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him." We do need to abide in the anointing.
When we abide in the anointing, God will teach us "all things." Don't be intimated by the big men in ministry, who will not listen to anything you say. They think they are the only ones God teaches.
When God teaches His children, He uses many ways. One of the most often used ways is by "a word of knowledge." The word of knowledge works in the lives of every Christian, not just the big men in ministry. The "word of knowledge" is like faith. There is a faith, that every Christian has, it came with the new birth, called a fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22). Then, there is a higher form of faith, called a "gift of the Spirit" (1 Cor. 12:9). Either one of these can operate in any born again child of God. Not just the big men in ministry.
When the gift of the Spirit, called the "gift of faith" works, the Holy Spirit is in control, not you. I recall Smith Wigglesworth telling about when the gift of faith operated in his life. There was a woman who was a part of the prayer group that Wigglesworth went to. She had died, and the doctors had already left to make out the reports. Wigglesworth said, he got down on his knees by her bed and started to pray. All of a sudden, something come over him and he pulled her out of the bed, pushed her up against the wall and commanded her spirit to come back into her body. She came back to life, and lived a long time after that.
When the gift of faith operates, it is not you, but something comes over you and you are no longer in control of what you do, the Holy Spirit is in control. The gift of faith operates "as the Spirit wills" (1 Cor. 12:11). But, when the fruit of the Spirit, called "faith" operates you must get involved, as Jesus said, "where is your faith"?
Sometimes, when the Holy Spirit is teaching you, it is "a word of knowledge." You know something, not by what you learned, but it is an automatic knowing, knowledge you have without studying or figuring it out. It is usually "an instant knowing," given to you by the Holy Spirit.
Many times I knew things "instantly" without any previous knowledge of what I knew. One day I was driving my car on an icy road. It just started to rain and freeze. As I was coming to a corner in the road (about fifty feet away), I saw a telephone pole straight ahead of me. Instantly, I knew that when I turned the steering wheel to make the corner in the road, the car would not turn, it would slide straight ahead and hit the pole just inside of the left headlight. I knew that when it hit, the car would bounce back a few feet. Then a car right behind me would hit my car in the rear and drive it back into the pole the second time. I knew that if I were behind the steering wheel at the time it hit the second time I would be crushed between the steering wheel and the seat. I knew that as soon as the car hit the pole the first time I had to pull the door handle on the drivers side and jump out of the vehicle, before the other car hit the back end of my car. I did exactly what I knew to do. After the second car hit my car and the driver got out of his car he came to me, asking, are you hurt? He thought I got thrown out of the car when he hit my car. But, it wasn't that, I jumped from my car just in time. I was not hurt at all, but the car was totaled out because of the damage in the front and the rear.
It's a word of knowledge, from the Spirit of God that gives us "instant knowledge," without any previous learning. Over and over in my life I would get a word of knowledge from God, that would keep me from getting hurt or killed.
When the Holy Spirit teaches his children, He does it many times by "a knowing." You know what to do at a certain time, but you cannot explain how you knew. It just happened that you knew without learning. If you abide in the anointing, the Holy Spirit will teach you all things, "by a knowing," without your learning. This happens in every born again Christian who will abide in the anointing.
It's the same Holy Spirit that Jesus was anointed with. He is the same Holy Spirit that all other Christians are anointed with. He is not a respecter of persons. You are just as important to God as Jesus is, Jesus is your Brother (John 20:21, Heb. 2:11).
God is concerned about our whole spirit, soul, and body (1 Thess. 5:23). We are in this world, and therefore we are subject to the world according to the Word of God. In Ephesians 4:28, His Word says, "let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good..." God wants Christians to work and labor with their hands and minds. God is not for lazy Christians who want to live off the labors of others. In Psalm 90:17, it says, "And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us..." Psalm 128:2 says, "For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee." Therefore, in His Word, He tells us we should work with our hands.
God is for us, not against us (Rom. 8:31). Being that God is for us, He is also interested in us living according to His Word. But, He never leaves us alone, to do things by ourselves without His help. Therefore, if we look to God as our helper in doing His will and living according to His Word, He will help us in every need we have, physical and spiritual.
I was working in the television repair business for many years. I learned by experience how God wants to work in our lives "in every area of our lives." One Saturday morning I had a customer come to me who was deaf. He and his wife were both deaf, but their children could hear. So on paper, he wrote, asking me to come to his house that afternoon. He had a caption machine and a video tape recorder set up the day before. But, when they watched the television while recording, the captions would come on the bottom of the screen. But, when they played the video tape back, the captions were not there.
Being in the television repair for many years, I learned many things to do. That day, I tired everything I knew to get the caption machine and video recorder to record the captions on the video tape, so they could read them when they played the video tape back. After making new cables, checking every connection to be sure they were making good contact, etc. I still did not have it working as it should.
Finally, I stepped back and prayed, "LORD, You know what is wrong, I need Your help, show me what to do"! I looked at the back of the Video Recorder and there I saw, I had the cable from the caption machine going into the output of the video recorder and the cable that goes to the television going to the input. The two connections were close enough together, that with a strong signal the captions could be seen on the televison set while the tape recorder was taping, but they did not get recorded on the video tape.
How did if find out what was wrong? It wasn't my knowledge or learning that helped me, it was the Holy Spirit putting the thoughts in my mind, bringing to my attention where to look and then see the problem. God is for us, not against us, and the Holy Spirit will write thoughts in our minds, if we will ask the LORD for help.
Christians forget to stay in contact with the LORD on an hourly basis, and ask Him when they need help. The world teaches us to study books and have teachers teach us worldly things. The LORD wants to teach us all things, by His Spirit. He wants to help us in every need.
One time I received a phone call from a person about fifty miles from Milwaukee. She lived in a small town were there were not many service companies. She said to me, Merle, is there any place in Milwaukee that I can take my electric typewriter in and have it repaired while I wait for it? She said, she needed it to type out tax forms that had to be mailed by the next day. Out of my mouth, without thinking, I said, "no, there are not any places where they will do that, if you want your typewriter fixed, you will have to wait up and I will come out and fix it for you." Those words come out of my mouth without me thinking. She said, she would wait up. So I got my television repair tools in my car and I drove out to her house. On the way, I said, "LORD, You know what is wrong, I don't know anything about fixing electric typewriters. I know You do not want me to lie, and I said I would fix it for her. Show me what to do, I thank You LORD"!
When I got there I first saw four screws that the heads were different than the others, they were holding the carriage in place. I loosened the screws and moved the carriage a little, just enough to know they were the screws I needed to take out. I removed the screws and laid the carriage down in the back of the typewriter. Then I noticed four other screws with heads different than the others. I loosened them and the cover for the typewriter was loose. Then I removed the four screws and removed the cover.
I knew a little about motors and etc. so I tried to turn the motor and it was tight. I took the belt off and turned as hard as I could with my fingers and the motor shaft turned a little. I took a spray can of lubricant I use for television repair and sprayed the motor shaft. Then I kept turning in until it was free. Once it was free, I spayed it a little more and put the belt back on the motor. When I turned the electricity on the motor ran. I put the cover and the carriage back on and the typewriter worked fine. A year later, I was told the typewriter was still working good.
Just because we don't know what to do in certain areas, that doesn't mean we can't do it. The LORD knows everything, and is willing to help us when we need help, if we will ask Him. He is concerned about every area of our lives. He told us in His Word we should work with our hands. If He tells us we should do something, He will also help us do it. In John 14:13,14 it says,
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it
There are no limitations on these verses. He didn't say, only those things that pertain to the spiritual realm. It includes "whatsoever we shall ask." Too often we forget the LORD when we have a need in the physical realm.
When the Holy Spirit responds to our asking, He writes the answers we need in our minds, and we know what to do. This is an operation of the Holy Spirit, simply, because God loves His Children and wants them to prosper and be in good health. These things pertain to the body and the soul, while we are here on earth. God is Love, and will not say NO, when we ask in faith, anything according to His Word. His Word teaches us that we should work with our hands, therefore, He will help us in whatsoever we have need of.
While I was between the two years of Bible School, I would drive back and forth between Milwaukee and Tulsa. It was about a fourteen hour drive. I would stop two or more times in a wayside and rest a short time.
When I would stop to rest, I would say, "Holy Spirit, wake me when it's time to go," and I would lay back on the seat and fall asleep. It seemed it was always about twenty minutes and I would wake up, refreshed, and get back on the road for a few hours before I would stop again. Usually, I stopped and rested at least two times during the fourteen hour drive.
One time, on the way back from Tulsa I left late in the evening, so I stopped at a wayside near Joplin Missouri. I said, "Holy Spirit, wake me when it's time to go," and I laid my head back and went off to sleep. About an hour later I woke up and looked at the clock. I said, "Holy Spirit, what happened? It's almost an hour now"! When I got on the road, I only went about a mile and the traffic was at a stand-still. I got out of my vehicle and went and talked to a truck driver ahead of me. He said, "there's a semi-truck jackknifed in the road ahead, it's been about an hour now. But they said the traffic is starting to move up ahead now, so get ready to go. I got back in my vehicle and was on my way. The Holy Spirit knew what was happening on the highway, so He left me sleep almost a whole hour while others sat on the highway, waiting.
That same night I got a few miles from another city south of St. Louis, Missouri and I pulled into a wayside and said, "Holy Spirit, wake me when it's time to go." I fell asleep and about an hour later I awoke. Again, I said, "Holy Spirit, what happened, it's almost an hour?" I got on the road again and only traveled a few miles. The daylight was just breaking in the east. The sun was not yet up. I could see a white figure ahead of me, on the side of the road. Soon, I noticed it was a woman dressed in white, holding up her hand. When I got to her, I pulled over and stopped. Her car was sitting on the side of the road and she wanted a ride.
When she came to my vehicle, she opened the door and said, "Praise God, a Christian"! I didn't have anything on my vehicle that would indicate that I was a Christian, I didn't even have a Bible where it could be seen. Then she told me, she was a Christian, and she prayed that the LORD would send a Christian to give her a ride to the hospital. She needed to be there before six o'clock. She said, her husband would come and get the car, she just wanted to be to work on time.
We had a great time talking about the LORD and the things God is doing for Christians. I drove her to the Hospital and then left on my way back to Milwaukee.
God is interested in every area of our lives. Not, just our lives, but the lives of everyone. Sometimes, He has to work things out so He can use us to help others also.
Where faith is involved, God is involved. God works by faith, in our lives. One time I was in a Baptist Church. During the Bible study we were given an opportunity to share things with others. I always took the opportunity to speak on faith. One day, I said, you must believe God will answer when you ask. Another day I said, you must be specific if you want God to answer your prayer.
I didn't know it, but there was a woman in the classes who was listening to everything I said. She was a single parent with three teenage children. The oldest one was in her last year of High School. She had a full time baby-sitting job, and got paid every month. She also had a boy-friend in the service. She made a lot of long-distance phone calls. She always paid for them from her baby-sitting job.
In December, the grand-mother of the children came to stay for a month. So, that month there was no baby-sitting money coming in. The telephone bill got rather high, and no money to pay it. The telephone company said they were going to disconnect the phone if the bill was not paid by Tuesday.
The Sunday before, this woman heard what I said about being specific when you ask God to answer your prayer. That Monday morning, when she got up she prayed. Then she told her daughter, before you go to school, call the telephone company and tell them I will be in on Tuesday with the money to pay the bill in full. Her daughter asked her, where are you going to get the money? She said, Merle is going to lend it to me! The daughter asked, did you ask Merle? She said, No, I prayed and God is going to have Merle loan me the money!
That day, she called me from her work and asked, will you loan me some money? Without thinking, I said "sure"! (That's how the Holy Spirit works, He gets us to say things without thinking). I asked her where she was. She said she was at work. Then I asked her what time she got out of work. She said, five o'clock. I told her I would be at work until six o'clock, so she should stop by on her way home from work.
Every question she asked me, I answered without thinking of what I was saying. The words came out of my mouth before I could think about what I was going to say. When she got to my place of work, she said, "you are going to loan me the money, aren't you"? I said, sure! Then she said, but you don't know how much I need? I said, that's ok. Then she said, she needed another one hundred and thirty-five dollars to pay her telephone bill by Tuesday. I asked her, when do you get paid? She said, this week on Thursday. I said, you'll need some money to buy milk and other groceries between then and Thursday, so I loaned her one hundred and fifty dollars. All the time, I answered her questions "without thinking of what I was saying, the words just came out of my mouth."
When God is working in our lives, He wants to use us to help others also. But, He works it out according to His ability, not always according to the way we want things to be done. He is well able to get others to help us, when we have a need. We do not have to lie, cheat, steal, beg, or manipulate others when we have a need. All we need to do is pray and believe God will answer our prayer. God will never let us down if we are in tune with the Holy Spirit within us.
After I received the Holy Spirit I felt impressed to write books. After I returned from Bible School, I felt impressed to get a printing press and print the books I was writing.
I could see the hand of God working in every area of the operation. When I went to look for a printing press, I had just returned from Bible School. I did not have a job. I did not have any income. I only had fifty dollars, which I was going to use to by food with. But the impression upon my spirit was so great, that I started looking for a printing press.
Now for those who are not following the leading of the Holy Spirit, but rather another spirit or just their own idea, the LORD doesn't tell us to start at the top and buy the best equipment in the world to start printing. The LORD always starts with a seed, and then as the seed grows it becomes larger.
I looked at three different places for a table-top printing press. The first one, they wanted about $7,000 for the press and the other equipment to make plates for the press, stapler, folder, and cutter. The second place I went to, wanted about $4,500 for similar equipment. On the way to the third place I intended to go, I was about one block away from the place when I noticed a sign on a building to my left, "......Printing Equipment." I just turned left and went into the office. I never did go to the place I intended to go.
At that place I was shown a table top press, plate maker, folder, and cutter. The price he gave me was $2,000 for the complete set-up. In my spirit, I knew I found the right equipment. I said to the salesman, if I gave you $50. now, could you hold it for one week while I get the rest of the money? He said, sure, just come back when you get the money.
Like many other things in this world, when you are working for the LORD the world treats you a little differently, not so nice as otherwise. I went to a Loan company where I had a mortgage on my house and plenty of equity, and asked to borrow the money. They refused me because I did not have a regular job at the time. Then I went to a Bank where I had banked for years and asked for a loan, they refused me on the same basis. Then I called my sister, knowing she knew someone who loaned money to her and asked her if she could get me in contact with that person. She asked, how much money I needed and I told her $2,000. She said, I'll send you the money and you can pay me back. The LORD always has an answer, it's up to us to keep going until we get the answer He has for us.
I bought the equipment, but I had no schooling or training on how to run printing equipment. I never worked in a print shop, never went to school on anything concerning printing. I only knew in my spirit the LORD wanted me to print. Everything I know and everything I learned about printing, I learned on the job, trusting the LORD to help me whenever I needed help. Here and there, I would ask someone a question about some little thing. But most of the time, I just kept up my studying the Word and praying in the Spirit. These things are the most important in a Christian's life. If I didn't know what to do, I would ask the LORD, "LORD, You know what to do, show me"! The answer would come to me sometime after I asked. Not always immediately, but it usually didn't take long.
Some times it seems the devil wants to interrupt what we are doing, and it seems that no matter what we try it doesn't work. One day I was trying to print and the fountain solution wasn't working right, the plate would get all messed up with ink. After trying everything I knew, I went and got my two sons and asked them to pray in the spirit with me. While we were praying in the spirit, the fountain solution turned from yellow to green. When I saw it, I said to my sons, that's it, the LORD fixed the problem. I started up the press and everything worked great. I never saw green fountain solution again, but that one time, that was the answer. God can do things supernaturally if it needs to be.
For many years I did a lot of printing, but I never went to school for anything concerning printing, and I never worked in any other print shop other than my own. The LORD will teach us what we need to know if we are doing what He called us to do. The LORD knows everything, and nothing is too hard for the LORD.
He sent His angels. One time we were stapling and folding books when the staples would bend and cause the covers to be damaged. I tried everything I knew to get things working right. I even tried sharpening the staples so they would go in easier. All day we worked, and had between 25 and 50 books that needed new covers and new staples. It was late and I said, let's just let those books lay on the table until we get the others all done, then I will cut new covers and we will put new staples in. We turned off the lights and quit for the evening. The next morning when we returned, there were no books on the table. It was all cleaned off. We questioned each other, what happened to the books we left on the table? We couldn't find them anywhere. So, we finished the job and when we were all done, every book I printed was there, there were no books missing and no books to put new covers on. It had to be the LORD, He must have sent His angels in the night to fix the bad books for us. Not only did He fix the bad books, but also the stapler. That day we did not have any problems with the stapler. No more bad staples, and no more bad covers. Praise the LORD! He is still the same, Yesterday, Today, and Forever...
I was in the television repair business for many years. After I became born again into the family of God and baptized in the Holy Spirit I learned how to repair televison sets with the help of the LORD. I learned that if I would study the Word and pray every day, I could just lay my hands on the top of the televison sets and ask the LORD to show me what was wrong. I would say, "LORD, You know what is wrong with this television set, show me that I can get it fixed. Thank You Jesus!" By the time I got the back off the television set it seemed I knew just what part was bad. I would change the bad part and test the set. It would only take minutes for me to repair sets.
Between my two years of Bible School, I came back to Milwaukee for the summer months. The person who bought the television business from me, said to me, "if you can repair the sets I have not been able to find the problem on, I will give you one-half of the labor." In one day, I laid hands upon a number of sets and asked the LORD to show me what was wrong. That day I made $125. fixing sets he could not find the answers on. Praise the LORD, He cares about every area of our lives, and wants to help us in everything we need to do.
In Jeremiah 31:33, speaking of the New Covenant, it says, "this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people."
Note that the word hearts is translated from the Hebrew word "leb," which includes the will and the intellect. When we go over to Hebrews 8:10, it says "this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people." In the Greek it says, "their mind and their hearts." This is speaking of the Holy Spirit "putting God's laws," that is, God's intentions in our minds and in our hearts.
This is a work of God, not of man. God is going to do this, not man. We could say, as it says in Zechariah 4:6, "by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts."
There are things that God tells us to do, such as "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Tim. 2:15). But God is not going to leave everything up to us individually, all by ourselves. Besides what we do on our own, God is also going to teach us Himself. Jesus said in John 6:45, "And they shall be all taught of God."
There are many ways God teaches us. In Hebrews 8:10 it talks about writing His laws in our minds and in our hearts. That is different than speaking to us from our spirit. Speaking to us from our spirit is similar to prophecy. Whereas, writing them in our hearts and our minds is a word of knowledge or a word of wisdom (1 Cor. 12:6).
When God speaks to us from our spirit, it is similar to speaking to someone with an audible voice, but you know it is not audible. The words come to your mind from your spirit, not from your mind.
There was a time that I had a growth on my finger. It was there and growing for about two weeks. One day, I was praying in the Spirit, while driving down the road, and out of my spirit came these words, "why don't you curse the roots on that growth and command it to die and fall off"? I immediately cursed the roots in Jesus' name and commanded them to die and the growth to fall off.
It seemed as though nothing happened when I prayed. The growth was still there. I couldn't see any change. For weeks I continued to change the band-aid I had been putting on it to protect it. One thing I noticed after a week or so, was that it didn't get any larger. It stayed about the same size.
About a month later, as I was changing the band-aid, the growth fell off. It come off with the band-aid when I removed it to put on a new one. The words I spoke that day while driving down the road caused the growth to die. It did fall off after about a month. There was not even a mark where it had been.
The Holy Spirit knows when you have a need. And He knows how to meet that need. He goes by the Word of God, whatsoever it says in the Word of God, that He will help you do.
In 1981, just after I received the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues I was in need of finances. I was in the television repair business and it was the last week in May. On Tuesday, the day following Memorial Day, I was watching television at noon. There was an evangelist on telling about a situation where he needed one hundred thousand dollars to finish a project.
All of a sudden from my spirit I heard "send ___ ___ one hundred dollars"! It wasn't an audible voice, but it was the same as if it was. I knew I needed about three thousand dollars by the fifteenth of June and didn't have anywhere near that amount. I said, "LORD, I don't have one hundred dollars to spare."
The next day, about noon, from my spirit came these same words, "send ___ ___ one hundred dollars"! I said, "LORD, I don't have one hundred dollars to send, I need three thousand dollars by the fifteenth of June, if I had it, You know I would send it." After I said that, I began to check all the money I had. I totaled everything up, my personal cash, my personal checking account, my shop checking account, and my shop cash. I had about six hundred dollars total.
Again, on Thursday about noon, from my spirit came these same words, "send ___ ___one hundred dollars"! This time I answered, "LORD, I'll send the money, but You will have to take care of the three thousand dollars I need by the fifteenth of June." I wrote out the check and went to the corner mail box and mailed it. When I was entering the door to the shop the telephone was ringing. I got one phone call after another for service work.
I started working long hours every day, trying to get all the jobs done on time. By the fifteenth of June I had over three thousand dollars. By the first of July I had another one thousand dollars, and by the end of July I took in about five thousand dollars more than any year previous during those three months.
Sometimes the Holy Spirit works in our lives without our knowing what He is going to do until we see what He did. He does not work according to our understanding or our ways, His ways and His understanding are greater than ours.
Before I was born again I belonged to a denomination that did not teach the born again experience. They even taught against the baptism in the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Yet, I spent much of my life reading the Bible; but, also listening to the pastors of that denomination. Once I was born again, the Word came alive to me. I had to leave that denomination and join in with others who were born again.
Being I was excited about the Word of God, many people knew I studied the Bible. Thereby, many times people would call me, instead of talking to a pastor. One day a woman, who was a single parent with a teenage daughter called me. Her daughter was getting involved in sex with older men. She tried to get her daughter to change, but she could not. So, she called me to see what the Bible said to do.
The day she called I had my own television repair shop and was at work. First she told me the situation with her daughter, then she asked to come and see me about it. I told her to come over to the shop I would talk to her about it. It took almost an hour for her to get to the shop from her house. In the meantime, I spent all that time going through my Bible, marking down all the Bible verses I could find, to show her when she came. As you can imagine, being from a denomination that didn't teach the born again experience or the baptism in the Holy Spirit, I went to the Law.
When she got to the shop, I already had a number of verses marked down. But, the first thing I did was asked her to explain the situation once more to me. When she finished explaining everything, the Holy Spirit took over. I did not use a single Bible verse that I had marked down. I said, "Let me ask you a question, is your daughter born again"? She said, Yes. Without thinking what I was about to say, I said, "then she is not your daughter, she's God daughter, she's your sister in the LORD! So, put her in God's hands, love her, pray for her, ask the Holy Spirit to take over in her life and set her free." I told her, "she didn't have to let her daughter get involved with men in her house, but to love her and pray for her every day."
About six months later she called me and told me her daughter met a young man in church, who was born again; and they were going to get married. About six months later, her daughter sent me an invitation to the wedding. I went to the wedding.
God knows how to work things out a lot better then we think. Too often we get our own ideas on how God should do something, and we want God to do it our way. After this happened, I recalled what Jesus said to the Pharisees in John 8, and also what He said to the woman taken in the act of adultery. We can learn from the Holy Spirit, if we will let Him have control when situations come up.
In James 4:2, it says, "ye have not, because ye ask not." Now we know that doesn't mean what some people teach, but it does mean, "we don't have what we could have, because we don't ask the LORD when we should be asking Him."
I was replacing my old doorbells with new wireless doorbells. When I held the buttons in place they worked fine. But, when I mounted the buttons on the doorframe they did not always work, especially on the doorbells in the basement of my house. I tried repositioning them in different places and still had the same problem. They worked when I held them against the wall or doorframe, but after I mounted them they didn't always work. I spent at least a half an hour trying different spots and still could not get them to work every time I pressed the button.
Finely I did what I should have done earlier, I spoke to the LORD, saying, "LORD, what is wrong, what should I do?" The next thought that came to my mind was, "why not mount them upside down?" All it was, was a thought that came to my mind, nothing else, just a thought. I mounted them upside down and they both worked every time. Praise the LORD! We should be asking the LORD more often, instead of trying to figure it out for ourselves.
One day, while working on a job, these words came to me from my spirit, "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."I know that is Romans 8:2. It seems the Spirit wants to bring back to my remembrance things which He has taught me over the years.
What does Romans 8:2 mean? There are two spiritual laws in the universe. There is a law of sin and death. That law is that death comes by sin, and sin produces in man death, which is also called eternal death in Revelation 20:14. The other law is the law of life in Christ Jesus. That law is that all who are in Christ Jesus have eternal life.
What happened in the garden of Eden? Man came under the law of sin and death when man ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Romans 5:12 says, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." The word "death" in this verse is translated from the same Greek word as the word "death" used in Revelation 20:14, calling it "the second death," which is eternal death in the lake of fire.
We were all born of the flesh into this world. All who were born of the flesh, were in Adam right from our birth into this world. In 1 Corinthians 15:22 it says, "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." Who are in Adam, and who are in Christ? All those who are not born again of the Word and the Spirit are in Adam. All who are born again of the Word and the Spirit are in Christ.
All who are in Christ are not in Adam. They have been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God's Son (Col. 1:13). They were in the flesh at one time. They were in Adam at one time. But, once a person is born again, they are no longer in the flesh but in the Spirit (Rom. 8:9).
For those who are in the Spirit, we are no longer in Adam, but rather, we are in Christ. We are not of this world, as Jesus said in John 17:16, "They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world."
Why is it that we are not of this world? Because we are born again from above. We have a new spirit that came down from heaven (Ezek. 11:19 & 32:26). In that spirit is the very life of God. This is the same life that the Father has in Himself, the same life that He gave His Son to have in Himself. That is the same life we have in ourselves, once we are born again of the Spirit (John 3:6).
We were under the law of sin and death when we were in the flesh. But now that we are in the Spirit, we are no longer under the law of sin and death, but rather under the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
What does that mean? That means, that in this life on earth, sin and death have no power over us. We have power over sin and death! That means, when we leave this earth we go to heaven where our Father and Jesus live forever. Because Jesus lives, we live also (John 14:2,19).
We are not our own; that is, we belong to Jesus. He is our head and we are a part of His body, "the body of Christ." We live in Him and He lives in us, we are One Spirit with the LORD (1 Cor. 6:17). In Christ, dwells the fulness of the Godhead, and we are complete in Him (Col. 2:9,10).
Being that we have eternal life. Being that the fulness of the God head dwells in us. That means we are children of God, born from above, having the same power over all the works of the devil that Jesus had. We have a spiritual body. We have the same heavenly Father. We have the same Word of God. We have the same Holy Spirit. We have everything Jesus had as the Son of Man here on earth.
What will we do with all that we have of God? Will we live like Jesus lived on earth? Will we do the works that Jesus did while on earth? Will we make use of all that we have of God?
There are two laws working in the lives of Christians, "the law of sin and death," and "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus." The law of sin and death was at work in Paul's members (his flesh). But, Paul was not in the flesh, but in the Spirit (Rom. 8:9). Yet, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus was at work in the inward man, the new creature in Christ. Therefore, Paul said, as long as he walked after the Spirit, and not after the flesh he was free of all condemnation. Look what it says in Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
How do we walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh? We learn the key by "walking by faith and not by sight" (2 Cor. 5:7). For the Scripture says, "The just shall live by faith" (Rom. 1:17, Gal. 3:11, Heb. 10:38).
Who are the just? The just are those who are justified by the works of Jesus, He is our justification. He is our righteousness. He is our sanctification. He is our salvation. He is everything in our lives that God intended us to be. He is our LORD and Savior. We have the same Father in heaven, for we are children of God with Him. We are in Him and He is in us, we are One.
When we know who we are in Christ, and when we believe who we are in Christ, we can walk by faith and not by sight. When Christians don't know who they are in Christ, Satan has an advantage over them. Satan works by the law of sin and death in the flesh. If Christians walk after the flesh they put themselves under the law of sin and death and Satan has an advantage over them.
How do we walk after the Spirit? It's simple, we walk according to the Word of God. The Word and the Spirit are One (1 John 5:7). When we walk according to the Word we are walking in agreement with the Holy Spirit. When we are not walking according to the Word, we are not in agreement with the Holy Spirit.
Why did the Holy Spirit have the apostle Paul write Romans 8:2? Mainly, because He first wrote Romans 7:14-23. The apostle Paul faced the same situations in this world as we do. The same devil was working against Paul also. The devil is still the same, he has not changed. What he tried to do to Paul, he tries to do to us also. What he tries to do to us is no different than what he tried to do to Paul. Paul overcame the devil, what about us?
Paul said, the things he wanted to do, he didn't do. The things he didn't want to do, he did. What was the reason it was that way in Paul's life? After all, Paul said, "I delight in the law of God after the inward man" (Rom. 7:21). Do we delight in the law of God after the inward man? Then, why aren't we doing the will of God? Paul said, "I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members" (Rom. 7:23).
It is important what the Holy Spirit is trying to teach us from Romans 7:14 through Romans 8:9. There is an outward man of the flesh. In 2 Corinthians 4:16 it says, "For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day." The outward man is the man of the flesh, born of the flesh. The inward man is the man of the spirit born of the Spirit. Remember, Jesus said in John 3:6, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." These are two different aspects of man. The man of the flesh is in the likeness and image of Adam. The man of the Spirit is in the likeness and image of Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 15:47-49 says,
The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.
As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
Looking back at 1 Corinthians 15:22, it says, "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." The law of sin and death entered mankind in the garden of Eden. Sin and death passed upon all mankind (Rom. 5:12). Mortality (which is physical death), and corruption (which brings eternal death) entered into mankind in the garden of Eden.
For all those who are in the flesh, in Adam, they will die and spend eternity in the lake of fire (Rev. 20:14). But, for those who are in Christ Jesus, they will spend eternity in heaven.
Being born again of the Word (1 Peter 1:23), and of the Spirit (John 3:5,6), we are no longer in the flesh. Romans 8:9 says, "ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." We are not in the flesh, but, we still have the flesh with us. We still have our natural mind and our natural body. Romans 8:5,6 says,
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Satan attacks our minds and our bodies. Sin is a product of Satan, produced by his demon spirits. There is sin in the flesh. Romans 7:20 says, "Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me." It says in Romans 7:23, "But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members."
There has always been sin in the flesh, from the garden of Eden on. But, if we are born again, we are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit. We are not in Adam, but in Christ Jesus. Satan is the accuser of the brethren (Rev. 12:10). Satan is the author of sin, for he sinned from the beginning (1 John 3:8).
God has never bowed to the devil, or the works of the devil. The Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world (Rev. 13:8). Regardless of what Satan does, God continues to carry out His Word, as it is written. His Word has gone forth into the world and it will not return to Him void (Isa. 55:11).
There is a law of sin and death. There is also a law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ makes us free of the law of sin and death.
Look at some of the attempts Satan made to destroy man through the law of sin and death. Take for instance King David. Now, King David was a man after God's own heart (1 Sam. 13:14, Acts 13:22). King David was under the law of Moses. Yet, the LORD spoke through Nathan, that out of King David's own bowels, Jesus would come. Therefore, from the bloodline of David, Jesus would be born in the flesh.
Now, look at the bloodline of David to Jesus. Joseph, the step-father of Jesus was from the bloodline of David through Solomon (Matt. 1:6-16). But what about the bloodline of David to Mary, the mother of Jesus? From Mary back to Jesus the bloodline of King David came through Nathan (evidently, a brother of Solomon) (Luke 3:31). Bathsheba was the mother of both, Solomon and Nathan. Bethsheba was the wife of Uriah, the woman King David committed adultery with, then had her husband killed in battle, so he could marry her.
Look how the devil worked in King David's flesh, he had many wives and concubines (contrary to the law of Moses). Satan still works in the flesh of those who get into sin. Does God approve of sin? No, but He does approve of the righteousness of Jesus which is upon all those who repent and believe (Rom. 3:22,23).
Remember, King David was not born again and not baptized in the Holy Spirit. King David was in the flesh. Therefore, there is still condemnation for those who walk after the flesh (Rom. 8:1,4).
Don't follow in the footsteps of King David, but follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Set the past behind, and "walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin" (1 John 1:7). There is sin in the flesh, "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you" (Rom. 8:9).
Do Christians believe they are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit? (Rom. 8:9). Do they believe they are a new creature in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). Do they believe it is the inward man that goes to be with Jesus, not the man of the flesh?
Paul wrote in Galatians 2:20, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." Do Christians believe about themselves as Paul believed about himself? Paul wrote in Galatians 5:24 "And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts."
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death (Rom. 8:1,2).
THE WORD & THE SPIRIT
It is important that Christians do not get off into error. Some have spent a lot of time reading the Word, but have not spent time with the Holy Spirit, praying in tongues. Others have spent a lot of time praying in tongues and very little time studying the Word. When Christians become unbalanced between the Word and the Spirit they easily get off into error.
Unless we study the Word (not just read it), we will easily get into error. There are, what is called "stumblingblocks" in the Bible (1 Cor. 1:23). God has put them there for a purpose; that no one can come unto the Truth, lest it be "by the Word and the Spirit." Without revelation of the Word by the Holy Spirit, we cannot know the Truth. Many Christians, have stumbled on these stumblingblocks, following the teachings of men; rather than spending time alone with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The Word and the Spirit are both God, along with the Father, and all Three are One. In I John 5:7 it says, "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." In this verse, the Son is called "the Word." Jesus, "the Son of God" is the Word of God manifest in the flesh (John 1:1,2,14, Rev. 19:13). If we don't keep in balance with both the Word and the Spirit, we will easily be deceived.
If we study the Scriptures closely, we will notice that the Word always comes before the Spirit. The Spirit follows the Word. This is from Genesis through Revelation. If we try to follow the Spirit without the Word we will get into great error.
I know of a woman, who spends a lot of time praying, and not much time in the Word. She said to her husband, "God told me one-half of everything I make is mine. You can have the other half to help pay the bills with." Where is that in the Word? This same woman told her husband, "all the bills are your responsibility, not mine." This is a Spirit-filled woman, that has gone away from the Word.
Another time, a woman called me and said, "God told her she was to get married to a certain man." Then she asked me what to do, because she had done everything she knew to be where this certain man was and he didn't pay any attention to her. She did this for almost a year and still he never paid any attention to her. What should she do? Anyone who knows the Word of God and the voice of the Spirit, knows that was not God telling her to marry that man. She got herself over into too much time in the spirit and not enough time in the Word to know the difference between that which is of God and that which is not of God.
When Christians go around listening for voices, thinking it is God, they usually get deceived. God speaks to His people "when He wants to," in the mean time we should be doing what it says in the Word. Not seeking a voice to tell us what to do. Wrong voices are usually compelling, where the voice of the Holy Spirit is gentile, and never forces or compels anyone to obey. Obedience is our part, the Word is the LORD's part. We must learn to obey the Word before the voice. The Word always comes before the voice.
One woman told her husband, God told her she had to be at a certain meeting on a certain day. When her husband didn't take her, she got upset and went by herself. When she got to where the meeting was to be there was no one there. The building was dark and locked up. She called a friend and asked her if she knew what happened? Her friend told her the meeting was canceled. Didn't God know the meeting was canceled?
If Christians would spend time studying the Word along with their prayer, the Holy Spirit will become their Guide, Comforter, Teacher, Helper, and will Lead them in the ways of God. They will not get all confused as to the difference between the voice and the Word, the difference between the Holy Spirit and other spirits.
Satan likes it when Christians get away from spending time in the Word. Then he can come with his counterfeits and control their lives, with them thinking it's God. Satan likes it when Christians operate from their mind, and not from their spirit. All he has to do is put thoughts in their minds and they follow him without even questioning where those thoughts came from.
Satan likes it when Christians get their minds on this world and the things of this world. He can control almost everything they do, and they think it's God. Satan gets them to follow the teachings of men and they think they are doing the will of God.
There are many teachings of men in the Christian Churches today. Many are following the teachings of men, thinking it is God. The Word always goes before the Spirit. The Word and the Spirit agree. If we stay with the True Word of God, not the teachings of men we will know what is of God and what is not? The True Word of God comes from the Hebrew, Chaldee, and Greek, not the thoughts of men. Every Bible has errors, some many more errors than others. Always, go back to the original languages to see what it originally said.
