Victory in Jesus

In John 14:6, Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life..." All truth must be established and verified by positive evidence. If the above statement that Jesus made is true, then there should be evidence of this truth.

Yet, we cannot take only a few words and receive positive evidence to establish that they are true. We must receive enough evidence to establish the truth.

If Jesus is truly "the truth," then what He says must also be truth. In John 6:63, Jesus said, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." Is there evidence in what Jesus said in John 6:63 that will help to establish this as truth? I believe there is, and those who have believed the words that Jesus spoke have also received evidence from the words that Jesus spoke.

In June of 1981, I broke my toe on a Saturday afternoon in a downtown apartment building. I drove home, took off my shoe. I saw the swelling and the black and blue coloring of my foot. I could feel the pain. When this happened, my mind began to receive thoughts from the devil. I knew it was broken. I had experienced a broken bone in my body years ago. The pain of a broken bone is different from that of a sprain or torn ligament.

Then a thought came to my mind, "I had better go to the hospital and get it x-rayed, to be sure the bone was in the right place." Then a second thought that came to my mind was, "When I do that the doctor will cut out the front of my shoe and put a bandage on my toe, and I will go around like that for about six weeks."

Then the Spirit of God rose up within me and said to me, "You don't have to do that, by His stripes you are healed, He bore your sickness and infirmities, tell the devil to take a jump." Immediately I said, "Devil get out, I don't need this and you can't put this on me, by His stripes I am healed." "Jesus Himself took my infirmities and bare my sickness, so you can go take a jump. Thank you Jesus."

At that time I was alone in the house. I spoke words out loud to the devil and I confessed before God my healing. Then I took a shower, dressed up, and went out for lunch. The thought came to me again, "Go to the hospital and have an x-ray." I said within myself, "Why should I spend God's money for something I didn't need. God's Word is true and I am healed."

That day my foot was very sore but I kept on going. The person I went to lunch with said to me, "Merle, you should have stayed home, and not be walking around on that foot." I just said, "Don't worry about it, it's Ok."

The next day the soreness left. It was Sunday and I went to Church. On Monday evening I showed my foot to those at my house who were there for a share group meeting. All we could see was one red spot and a blue stripe mark where the break had been. Praise the LORD for His Word! By Tuesday all was back to normal, no red spot, no blue stripe.

On Friday, I showed my foot to a friend of mine who was a nurse. I told her what had happened the Saturday before and how my foot came back to normal in three days. She said, "It had to be God, for in the natural it would take ten days to two weeks before the black and blue would be gone."

When things like this happen in the lives of Christians who believe the Word of God, the doctors of this world cannot explain it. To them, this is not possible. In the natural, it takes weeks for a broken bone to heal. Most doctors cannot believe that we can be healed of a broken bone in three days.

I believe that being healed of a broken bone in three days is evidence of the Words that Jesus spoke in John 6:63. Jesus' Words are spirit and they do produce life.

Jesus also said to a man whose son had a deaf and dumb spirit, "If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth" (Mark 9:23). When we believe the Written Word in our heart and confess with our mouth, we will receive according to what the written Word of God says.

As we take into account other things that Jesus said, we will receive the Truth, that Jesus is "...the way, the truth, and the life..." (John 14:6). Thereby, when we consider what Jesus said in John 6:63, along with Mark 9:23, we can see that Jesus was speaking the truth. But, we must use all that Jesus said in these verses, not leaving anything out. Look at John 6:63 in the New King James Version, It says, "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words (rhema) that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life." Notice that the Greek word translated "words" is "rhema." There is a difference between the Greek word "logos" and the Greek word "rhema."

By this we can see, the Words that Jesus spoke, must be quickened (that is, made alive), by the Holy Spirit. If the Holy Spirit does not cause the Words that Jesus spoke to come alive, then we will not experience the truth. The truth of the Words that Jesus speaks must be made alive by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Many have had situations in their lives similar to the time I had a broken toe. They also spoke words and nothing happened. Why is it that way? Why does it work for some Christians and not work for others?

One main reason they work for some Christians and not for others is that some Christians do not believe in their heart, they try to believe from their mind only. If Christian's base the words they speak upon head knowledge only, it usually will not work.

Jesus was not saying the words He speaks will work for those who base what they believe on head knowledge only. Jesus specifically said, "It is the spirit that quickeneth (makes alive or brings to life)." What we believe must include everything that Jesus said in John 6:63. Jesus said, "...the words (rhema) that I speak unto you, they are spirit..." Spiritual things take place in the spiritual realm first, then they manifest in the natural realm.

Everything that happens in this world begins in the spiritual realm, then manifests in the natural realm. If you recall, when I broke my toe thoughts came to my mind. Those first thoughts came from the devil, trying to blind my mind to the truth, which I knew in my spirit. The first thought was, "I had better go to the hospital and get it x-rayed, to be sure the bone was in the right place." Then a second thought that went through my mind was, "When I do that the doctor will cut out the front of my shoe and put a bandage on my toe, and I will go around like that for about six weeks."

The first thought came from another spirit, which was not from God. The second thought came from my mind. It was what I had learned in the natural over the years of listening to what the world teaches.

Then "the Spirit of God" rose up within me and said, "You don't have to do that, by His stripes you are healed, He bore your sickness and infirmities, tell the devil to take a jump."

Once I received information from the Holy Spirit within me, I immediately I said, "Devil get out, I don't need this and you can't put this on me, by His stripes I am healed." "Jesus Himself took my infirmities and bare my sickness, so you can go take a jump. Thank you Jesus."

There is "Victory in Jesus!" To receive the victory that is in Jesus, we need knowledge and understanding of the Word of God. Many Christians are defeated in their lives because of a lack of knowledge and understanding of the Word of God.

In Hosea 4:6, it says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." This was already written in the Old Testament, but it is still "the Word of God." Being it is in the Old Testament, it must be understood according to that which is revealed to us in the New Testament also.

In the New Testament, it says in John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." In 1 John 5:7, it tells us, "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."

(Side note: If you do not have this verse in your Bible, then it may be wise of you to get a Bible that does have this verse. God put this verse in the original manuscripts. Men have taken it out of many newer English Bibles. We should go by what God said, not by what men have said or did).

God and His Word are one. Being that the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit are One, they must all agree at all times. Without the Word of God, we cannot have a true God. Without the Holy Spirit we cannot have a true God. Without the Father, we cannot have a true God. At the same time, John 1:1 is speaking of Jesus, calling Jesus "the Word of God." Therefore, without Jesus, we cannot have a true God.

According to Hosea 4:6, God's people (which includes all Christians, for they are truly God's children through the new birth), are also destroyed for a lack of knowledge. The reason they are destroyed for a lack of knowledge is because they have "forgotten the law of God." The law of God for Christians is "His written Word."

For New Testament Christians, we are not under the Law of Moses. The Law of Moses required that they obey all the statues of the Law (including the Ten Commandments). For Christians, the Law of God "is His Word," which He has given us in the New Testament. If we reject the knowledge of the Word of God given to us in the New Testament, we will also be destroyed, because of a lack of knowledge. Christians today must live according to the New Testament, not the Old Testament.

Today, many Christians are destroyed for a lack of knowledge of the difference between the Old Testament Law, and the New Testament Grace. In John 1:17 it says, "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ." It says in Acts 13:38,39, "Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins....And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses."

Christians cannot be saved by the Law of Moses. We can only be saved "by Grace and Truth through Faith." Jesus came into this world "by Grace." By Grace means, "by God's unmerited favor."

We cannot be justified by the Law of Moses. But we can be justified "by Grace and Truth" through "faith." Our salvation is according to Ephesians 2:8, which says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God." Therefore, we are not saved by Grace alone, but by faith in the Word of God given to us by the grace God.

If Christians do not put faith in the grace of God, they cannot be saved. The word "saved" is short for salvation. Salvation means "delivered and protected." This means, whatsoever we need to be delivered or protected from, will come from God "by Grace through faith."

Therefore, when I broke my toe, the Grace of God was available to me "by His Word." When I believed His Word, the Holy Spirit "quickened, or made alive" the Word of God within me and I was healed. I was delivered and healed from the bone which had been broken.

The healing of the broken bone was not by faith alone. It was not by believing alone. It was by a combination of the Word of God, the work of the Holy Spirit confirming the Word of God and faith in the Word of God which I received by knowledge of the New Testament, "grace and truth, which came by Jesus Christ."

I am not special above any other Christian. I am not in any way above any other Christian. Neither am I any less than any other Christian. The difference between receiving and not receiving healing is based upon truth, which is revealed in the written Word of God.

Our Victory is in Jesus, who is "the way the truth and the life" (John 14:6). When we know the Way, we know Jesus. When we know the Truth, we know Jesus. When we experience eternal life we experience Jesus in our lives. Jesus is alive in us. He is our life in the Spirit, and in Him we live and move and have our being.

There was a time that I had a growth on my finger. It was there and growing for about two weeks. One day, I was praying in the Spirit, while driving down the road, and out of my spirit came these words, "Why don't you curse the roots on that growth and command it to die and fall off?" I immediately cursed the roots in Jesus' name and commanded the growth to die and to fall off.

It seemed as though nothing happened when I prayed. The growth was still there. I could not see any change. For weeks I continued to change the band-aid I had been putting on it to protect it. One thing I noticed after a week or so, was that it was not getting any larger. It stayed about the same size.

About a month later, as I was changing the band-aid, the growth fell off. It came off with the band-aid when I removed it to put on a new one. The words I spoke that day while driving down the road caused the growth to die. It did fall off after about a month. There was not even a mark where it had been.

Why did this growth fall off of my finger about a month after I cursed it in Jesus' name? It is because of the Word of God which is Truth. Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1). Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6). The Words that Jesus spoke are Spirit and they are life (John 6:63).

The Holy Spirit is also God along with the Father and the Word of God. The Holy Spirit did exactly what Jesus said in John 6:63. Remember, in John 6:63, Jesus said "the Word (rhema) is spirit and it is life." The Greek word "rhema," means, "the present tense word of God spoken by a living voice." The Greek word "logos" means "the past tense word of God, which is now written, which was at one time spoken by a living voice."

When the Holy Spirit brought the Word (rhema) of God to me from my spirit, it caused my finger to respond to the Word (rhema) that came to me. We need the Word (logos) of God to know what God had already said, and had it written in the Scriptures. What is written in the Scriptures is God's Word (logos). When we believe the Word (logos) in our heart, the Holy Spirit will bring the Word (rhema) to us, and we will receive according to what is written in the Word (logos).

Our Victory is in Jesus! Simply, because, Jesus is the Word (logos) of God, who became flesh. The Word (logos) of God became a man by the work of the Holy Spirit, working in and through Mary, a virgin woman chosen by God to be the earthly mother of Jesus.

Mary was chosen by God from the foundation of the world to be the earthly mother of Jesus Christ, Who is God's only begotten Son. The angel sent by God did not have any problem getting Mary to become the earthly mother of Jesus. Mary only had one question, which was "...How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?" (Luke 1:34). The angel explained to Mary, "The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:35).

Once Mary knew how that she could become pregnant by the Holy Spirit, "Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word (rhema)" (Luke 1:38). Mary had received a "rhema" (word) from the angel. It is the "rhema" words that we receive from the Holy Spirit, within us that causes the Word (logos) to come to pass.

How do we get the "rhema" (Word) from the Holy Spirit? We must first be born again, of the Word (logos) of God and the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 1:23; John 3:5,6). Then we must be baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues (Acts 1:4,5,8; 2:4). Baptized means, "submerged in the Holy Spirit," and filled means "the Holy Spirit is in us." When the Holy Spirit is in us and we are submerged in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit can work in our lives, giving us the Word (rhema) of God that manifests in faith in the Word (logos). It is not what we can do by our own power or might, but what God can do in us and through us by the Word (logos/rhema) working in our lives.

Jesus is Christ. Those who are born again of the Spirit and the Word of God are in Christ (John 3:6, 2 Cor. 5:17). Once we receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit, the fullness of the Godhead dwells in us (Col. 2:9). Therefore, being children of God in Christ Jesus and baptized in the Holy Spirit, we have the fullness of God working in us to deliver and protect us in every area of our lives.

We must know Jesus for whom Jesus truly is. It is not just knowing all about Jesus. It is knowing Jesus on a personal everyday living basis. Every day, we should be walking with Jesus and talking to Jesus.

We must know God as our God, the source and supply of all that we need. We must know the Holy Spirit as our Helper, Guide, Comforter, Leader and Teacher. The Holy Spirit must be active in our lives every day. The Holy Spirit must be in us, and we must be submerged in the Holy Spirit. Then we can be taught by the Holy Spirit to know and understand all things.

We must know the Word (logos) of God, not just in or minds, but in our everyday lives here on earth. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word (rhema) that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." The Word (logos) of God is what the Holy Spirit uses to bring us the Word (rhema) of God. When we live by the Word (rhema) of God, we live by the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit. That is how we have "Victory in Jesus!"

We must live by the Word (rhema) of God in our daily lives. What it says in the written Word (logos) of God, must become alive by the working of the Holy Spirit, bringing to us the Word (rhema) of God daily. When we apply the Word (logos) of God, the Holy Spirit will give us the Word (rhema) of God to live by every day. That is how we must overcome the world that we are not destroyed for a lack of knowledge.

On a Friday, in May of 2004 my foot started to get sore, between two toes. By Saturday morning, it started to swell, and got so sore that it was hard walk on it.

About that time the thoughts came to me that maybe I should go to a Drug Store and get something to put on it to relieve the pain and help with healing. This is what I used to do before I learned that Jesus bore my sicknesses and diseases on the Cross of Calvary for me. Just as the thought come to my mind, I said out loud, "Satan, you cannot put this on me, by Jesus' stripes I am healed, thank You Jesus for healing me, Amen." Even though it was very sore, I decided I was going to walk on it, because I was healed by Jesus' stripes. I left my house and walked about one block away. As I was walking the pain left, but some of the soreness was still there.

Sunday morning, there was still indications of the sore, but no pain or soreness. By Tuesday morning there was not even a mark where the sore had been. We could say, within three days from the time I prayed there was no indication that I had ever had a sore on my foot.

Christians could learn from these experiences of healing. Healing from the LORD according to His Word is like insurance is to the world. When people of the world have insurance when something happens they can call the insurance company and report their loss. The insurance company will then investigate and pay the damages if it is covered by their policy. Yet, if a person in the world has insurance, but does not report their loss, the insurance company will not pay the damages.

Christians have the Word of God, that entitles them to receive healing whenever they are attack by the enemy. But, if they do not use the Word of God against the enemy the Word of God will not benefit them. The Word of God works, but we must do what it tells us to do to benefit from it.

When we need something from God, and it is promised to us in His Word, we must ASK, then we will receive. The word ASK, has two meanings, one is "Make a request based upon a promise." The other meaning is "Make a demand based upon something that is rightfully yours." Healing is rightfully ours, therefore we can make a demand that Satan remove all symptoms and evidence of any sickness or disease, for "by Jesus stripes we are healed" (Isa. 53:5, Matt. 8:17, 1 Peter 2:24).

Why are many Christians defeated in their lives? Why are many Christians sickly, and dying before their time? There are two major reasons why Christians are sickly and dying before their time. The first reason is their lack of knowledge of the Written Word (logos) of God, especially the New Testament. The second reason is they have believed the teachings of men instead of the Word (logos) of God.

In 2 Corinthians 4:4 it says, "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." Because of the teachings of men, most Christians do not believe that Satan is a god. They believe he is the devil. But they do not believe he has powers similar to God. This verse in 2 Corinthians 4:4 tells us specifically that Satan is a god. Satan has supernatural powers greater than man, even greater than Christians.

The power that Satan has includes the ability to put thoughts in our minds to blind our minds to the truth concerning "the gospel of Christ." The gospel of Christ is the glorious good news of who we are in Christ Jesus and how to benefit from what Jesus has done for us.

Many Christians believe they know who they are in Christ, but they do not know how to benefit from being in Christ. When Satan blinds their minds by the teachings of men they live a defeated life here on earth. They do not have "Victory in Jesus!"

The words Jesus and Christ do not mean the same thing. The Word Jesus pertains to His life in the flesh here on earth, by which Jesus gave His "earthly life in the flesh for the salvation of the whole world." Jesus paid the price for our redemption from sin and death. The price was paid by the blood that Jesus shed for us on the Cross of Calvary. That is what Jesus did for us.

The word Christ pertains to the anointing that Jesus had received when He was baptized with the Holy Spirit following His baptism in water by John the Baptist. Christ means "anointed." Jesus Christ means "the anointed One." It is not Jesus only. It is not Christ only. It is Jesus Christ, the Anointed One that defeated the Devil for us.

Outside of Jesus Christ, which is "the anointed One," Christians do not have power over the devil. Our power over the devil is "through Christ" which is the anointing given to us by God. This power does not operate according to our will, but according to the Word (logos) of God dwelling in us. Therefore, we must renew our mind on the Word (logos) of God, and not be conformed to this world. Romans 12:1-2 says, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service....And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

These two verses are "our responsibilities." They are not the responsibility of our Pastor, or any other individual called into the ministry by the LORD. Too many Christians do not renew their minds on the Word (logos) of God. They believe what someone else tells them instead. By this, they eliminate themselves from the power of God that is available to them by the Word (logos) of God.

God never told any Christian to follow the teachings of another person. Not even the teachings of Apostles, Prophets, Teachers, Evangelists, or Pastors. These are in the body of Christ "For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ....Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ" (Eph. 4:12,13).

This perfecting of the saints is done by the work of the Holy Spirit in each individual. It is not done by people in the fivefold ministry. Even though there are these fivefold ministries in the body of Christ; the teaching is to be done by the Holy Spirit, through the anointing within each individual. If the person who claims to be in the fivefold ministry is not led by the Holy Spirit, on one will be helped. It is the anointing of the Holy Spirit working through those in the fivefold ministries that does the teaching.

It is not good that there are so many in the churches today, who do not have the anointing of the Holy Spirit working through them. They are teaching from their minds, and the teaching they do does not accomplish the results that God desires among His people.

In John 6:45 Jesus said, "It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God..." In the Old Testament, the children of Israel were taught by men. In the New Testament it says in Hebrews 8:6, "But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises."

Christians have a better covenant than the Children of Israel had. In Hebrews 8:10-12, it says, "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people...And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest...For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more."

Then in 1 John 2:27, it says, "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him." The "him" this is speaking of is the anointing, which is the Holy Spirit.

Every individual Christian needs to be taught by the Holy Spirit, which is the anointing within them. When Christians do not spend time in the Word (logos) of God and prayer (alone with God), Satan has an advantage over them. Satan can use those who call themselves Apostles, Prophets, Teachers, Evangelists, and Pastors to teach them the teachings of men rather than the Truth which the Holy Spirit teaches. Jesus said the Holy Spirit is "the Spirit of Truth," whom is sent to be our teacher (John 16:13).

Jesus is the Word (logos) of God. To have "Victory in Jesus," we must continue in the Word (logos) of God. Jesus said in John 8:31,32, "If ye continue in my word (logos), then are ye my disciples indeed....And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Continue, means to start and never stop. It means, daily, every day, continue in the Word (logos) of God. As we continue in the Word (logos) of God, we are continually being set free of all the works of the devil.

There are many teachings of men among Christians today. Many Christians are not benefitting from the Word (logos) of God because of the teachings of men. We need the teaching of the Holy Spirit to know the truth that will set us free!

Satan uses the teachings of men to blind the minds of Christians so he can hold them captive in their minds, and prevent them from receiving all that God has promised them in His Word (logos). Jesus, is the Word (logos) of God. He came to set us free of all the works of the enemy. Our Victory is in Jesus!

Everyone who believes can be set free. God sent Jesus into this world to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). Jesus did His part. Jesus defeated the devil and took the keys to hell and death from the devil (Rev. 1:18). But, for us to benefit from all that Jesus did for us, we must believe the Words (logos/rhema) that Jesus spoke to us. We must believe Jesus. We must believe the Word (logos) of God. We must believe all that God said in His Word (logos).

Jesus is all that the Bible says He is. Our Victory is in Jesus! We must receive "by faith," all that Jesus has done for us.
